What Members Thought

Not quite as endearing as Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, but still an engaging, quirky little book. This is a lighthearted novel that should have broad appeal. It came in second place in my community's "one read" competition, where the library designates a book as one that everyone should read and schedules a bunch of events. (NB: They picked Nomadland instead.)

Lois Clary is a software programmer who is getting burned out on her job when she is given a stranger sourdough starter by two Mazag brothers leaving the country. Lois soon begins making bread, first as a sideline then full time. The bread bakes faces into itself and the starter does strange things during the night. This book was very weird. It's hard to describe a book as cheerful, but that's what I felt reading this book some I'm going with it.
