Readers who enjoy hero adventures may want to give Laline Paull’s “The Bees a try. Though I wouldn’t recommend it to a child or adolescent because of some of the adult-type content, Flora, the heroine, reminded me of a Disney character who comes to the rescue again and again and again. As an avid fan of the Animals of Farthing Wood, I was really pleased when I won this and I was not disappointed. Here we follow Flora 717 as she develops from a lowly sanitation worker bee to one of the most important bees in the hive. This is a story that is powerful and moving on many levels and is very much character driven, even with the characters being bees.
