I was so disappointed when I came to the end of this book! It felt WAY too short! I wanted more! Luckily, there is a sequel: The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street.
I enjoy stories told in letters. Something about getting the story only in letters makes it all feel so real. And as far I can determine, these letters were real, and this book isn't fiction. The book consists of correspondence between the author and Frank doel from Marks and Co. booksellers. Helene is looking for hard to find books in the U.S. when she spots and add for Marks and Co. The correspondence covers over 20 years. Helene manages to provide a lot of gift baskets to the staff which are appreciated during the post WWII rationing. The second time and it was even better than I remembered.

I do not, probably about, 95% of books mentioned in this little book but such lively letters. They are so engaging that you'd just gobble them up in one sitting! The generosity, kindness, and most especially their love of books just pour out of the page and into my heart.

I used to refuse to read anything that wasn't written in novel format, but this story told in letters was so sweet and funny, I loved it!
