Do you ever just read a book and then realize you just read the entire thing without really realizing it? That was this book.

Simple beauty...

In it's simplest form this is a story of learning to understand your world as you grow up and your place in it. How to deal with the emotions that are so new and old to you AND acceptance in many forms.

If you read young adult, I completely recommend reading this!

This month (May), the book club’s theme for its book discussion was Young Adult. The selected book was Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz. This was my first time to read a book by this author and as is my habit, I didn’t read any reviews about the book before I read it. Such a beautifully written story of two kids growing into young adults and discovering the world and who they are. I want to write more, but I am still basking in the glow of the ending of this book. Written from the point of view of Ari - a loner who, one summer when he's 15, meets and befriends Dante - this is the perfect example of a coming of age novel. Both characters are wonderful, and watching them both grow and finally come together is simply su ...more

Very well done. This is why I read - to gain a greater understanding of the world and the people who live in it.

Dante and Aristotle (who prefers to be called Ari) seem, at first glance to be completely different. Dante projects self-assurance while Ari suffers from self-doubt; Dante is articulate, while Ari often has difficulty with words, perhaps because he comes from a family who tends not to talk, especially his father who carries with him the memories and the trauma of being in the Vietnam war. Plus, neither of his parents or his sisters, who are considerably older than Ari, talk about his brother who ...more

This was a beautiful story; I really loved it. I fell in love with the characters in this book. I love Ari. I love Dante.

I was getting the feels all over the place while reading this book, and there were a few times I had to pause because I was so invested and couldn't bear to see what happened. A sure sign of a good book.
