If book one was all about setting up the chess board and putting the chess pieces on the board, than this book is all about playing the game. With the competition over and Celeana having been named as the king's champion at the conclusion of the previous book, the field is now clear for Maas to really start digging into the story and where she's going to go with everything. 2024 - after reading all of TOG i begin to see that maas's writing is decent, but her characters are extremely formulaic and the ships all start to feel incredibly samey after awhile. and combined with maas being a zionist and the lack of any substantive queer rep in any of her books, she just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. i won't be reading any more of her stuff.

I really love this series! It is such a fun mix of fantastic characters and creative storytelling. Celeana cannot get any more interesting. I really love Chaol too! If you love these two then you are in for a treat!

This is too good to be true...
I'd lost the joy of reading for a couple of weeks, and this series is just right to make me fall in love with it again.
