What Members Thought

I was not overly interested in Jane's story of growing up in a girls school and then becoming a governess. It just didn't interest me as much as Jane Austen's books do.

I'm pleased to say I really enjoyed this. I didn't think I would. It did drag on at some points, I must admit, but I'm thankful I pushed through instead of giving up. It really was wonderful; the characters are so unbelievably different and realistic. For once, they aren't beautiful, but plain - sometimes to the point of ugliness - and deeply flawed. I have finally finished this book today and I am glad. This book started off okay but then started to drag and I just couldnt get into it. I had to put it down several times. Jane Eyre. Ahh, I have found memories of reading this, curled up on a bench, stopping to look outside to the (fittingly) gloomy weather outside the windows. I have never been able to finish Wuthering Heights, but I finished Jane Eyre with all possible speed. Jane Eyre (eventually) falls in love. But the man she loves is hiding something. What?

I really really liked this. I read it for a book club here, otherwise I don't know that I would have picked it up on my own but it was great. I kept thinking the book would be tough to get through but the mystery/suspense aspect of the book made we want to keep reading and reading.
