First, the forward to this edition is awesome. It's basically a more modern scholar trash-talking the translator (Arthur Waley) for being stodgy, male, and British in this 1928 translation. I kind of love peeking into these scholarly dialogues. It's like secret gossip.
Second, it's amazing how relevant this felt. These are reflections written by a young woman more than a thousand years ago in Japan. And yet, many of the snippets could easily fit in a modern women's magazine.
