What can I say? I have a soft spot for despicable, cynical, anti-heroes. But what strikes me most about A Hero of Our Time is how modern it feels - one feels it could easily have been written (though not as well) by Evelyn Waugh or Ernest Hemingway.

read for my nation, empire, and literature class. really great stuff. fascinating account of an anti-hero soldier in the cacauses told from multiple narratorial perspectives. fun to write a paper on.
