He's so mature for his age, it reminds me of the "if you love someone, you'd let them go" saying. But also, I don't think it's fair of him to choose whether she wants a life where she is demoted a caste. Because he will get married eventually. Whether his wife is another Six or he's raising her up from Seven or Eight, she will still be cold, hungry, afraid, etc (as he'd put it).

I think encouraged her to join knowing she’s obedient to his word, just for him to leave. and it felt like a way to weed her out because he didn’t have the courage to admit he was seeing someone else �
