Even though the information available at the time was skeletal compared with the mountain of material the January 6th Select Committee ultimately compiled, it was sufficient to convince 57 United States senators—including seven Republicans—to vote to convict Donald Trump. The 57-to-43 vote fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict. But it was the largest bipartisan vote in history for the conviction of a president on an impeachment charge.
