I will pick the top two or three with the most votes and we have a runoff poll (the standard technique for ties). But also since some people (like Cat) have interest in more than one series, before the poll ends I encourage people to change their votes to something that they are still interested in but has a better chance of winning than maybe their original vote.
There will be a runoff if the leading series doesn't get a majority vote, even if it's not a tie.
And if there is still a tie after the runoff, then because I am running the poll and not otherwise voting, I will break the tie (ah, the power of the Moderator!).
Oh, and if there is say a 3 or 4 way tie in the initial round, I'll use my Mod power to decide what goes into the runoff (or maybe flip a coin, there are several I'm equally happy to read, LOL)

For the record, I picked the Codex Alera because it's got 6 books and that fits really neatly into reading one every 2nd month. Also, it was already on my TBR list. I will, however, be adding Throne of Glass to be TBR pile which just goes to prove that no matter what, it is a never ending list

Interesting thought, though I was finding one month between Amber books a bit long, like I'd almost forget what was in the earlier ones when discussing the current one, something that doesn't bother me so much if I'm just reading, but somehow jumped out when I needed to discuss. Codex Alera are thicker books though so maybe we could use the spacing. Anyway, we can discuss when we find out what finally gets picked.
We finally have a frontrunner, but I'll still need to pick something as the second choice in the runoff poll. I'll flip a coin if nothing jiggles around tomorrow :)

Because we have a requirement that the person who does the nomination also needs to drive the discussion. That's ok if the person read a book recently, they don't need to re-read them but maybe they don't remember them well enough to discuss so they'd rather just pick up with the next three.
It didn't affect the vote as much as I expected, but then this is a very famous series so a lot of people have already read the first three and are happy to jump in with the next trilogy (Young Miles is also not the first in the series).
It's only three books/months, so we'll be picking a new series again soon so that's fine for those that don't participate, it won't be a long wait!
There is also at least a month and a half to catch up on the first three if one chooses to do so.

We've also, on occasion, done discussions of novels that weren't the first in a series. (The City of Blades discussion, 2nd book in Bennett's Divine Cities trilogy, comes to mind; we also did a buddy-read of City of Miracles, the 3rd book, but that's a different style.) It just presumes a number of members have, or are willing to, read a series up to the starting point.

Cat - Mistborn (3)
Jim - Codex Alera (6)
Bryce - Throne of Glass (7)
Silvana - The Books of the South (3)
Rachel - Young Miles (3)
Laura - Terra Ignota (3 with #4 forthcoming)
RJ (formerly known as Randy) - Narnia (6 since we're already reading one)
Remember when voting if you see your first choice cannot win, you are free to update your vote before the closing of the poll to help your second choice win. Even if we still have a runoff it might help ensure that the ones selected for the runoff are also the ones with the most interest.
