Of those books, the only one I've read is Grass, but that was ages ago, during my Sherri Tepper phase.

Those are the exact same four I was torn between. Such a good list!
I ended up going with Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang, as it made it onto my Favorites list when I read it a year ago. It's wonderful and under-loved.
For what it's worth, I don't really consider much of the Star Wars Expanded Universe to be SciFi(and none of the movies, for that matter).
But Heir really is just a good story regardless.

Why not it's fictional and it has some science in it...well not much but...
I think we should call it 'science fantasy'.

Ah yes, but three's the magic number!

Fortunately, I can still read it all by my lonesome... :-)

Good, because I already had an opportunity to borrow it and start it. Been meaning to read it for some time anyway. Maybe I'll read the whole trilogy over the next two months, like I did with the Fionavar trilogy when we read the Summer Tree.
Some other very good books to choose from, but I'm afraid the SF snob in me can't help but turn my nose up at the Star Wars book. Sorry Brad and Ala. : o
