Richard I'd love to return to the world of Takeshi Kovacs with Broken Angels as I thoroughly enjoyed the group read of Altered Carbon in 2010.

Some other very good books to choose from, but I'm afraid the SF snob in me can't help but turn my nose up at the Star Wars book. Sorry Brad and Ala. : o

message 2: by Brad (new)

Brad No need to apologize to me, Richard. Though I am currently reading the Han Solo books, I barely consider Star Wars Sci-Fi, but most do, so what the hell .... Besides, think of the fun Ala will have ;)

message 3: by Riona (new)

Riona Ooh! I'm torn between Grass, The Lathe of Heaven, the Female Man, and Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang. I've heard great things about Broken Angels, but I've been meaning to read Altered Carbon first.

message 4: by Peggy (new)

Peggy Wow - the book I voted for is in second - that's the closest I've ever come to the top of a poll!

Of those books, the only one I've read is Grass, but that was ages ago, during my Sherri Tepper phase.

Those are the exact same four I was torn between. Such a good list!

I ended up going with Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang, as it made it onto my Favorites list when I read it a year ago. It's wonderful and under-loved.

For what it's worth, I don't really consider much of the Star Wars Expanded Universe to be SciFi(and none of the movies, for that matter).

But Heir really is just a good story regardless.

Why not it's fictional and it has some science in it...well not much but...
I think we should call it 'science fantasy'.

message 8: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya My husband has been encouraging me to read The Forever War by Joe Haldeman for months. I think this is the only way I can actually read it - my reading schedule is packed with all those must-read books, but when it is a group read, you definitely prioritize it.

message 9: by Brad (new)

Brad That's what I call it too, Jonathan.

message 10: by Sonia (new)

Sonia Lal Voted for Broken Angels because I really enjoyed Altered Carbon. I've already read The Forever War, so I didn't vote for it. But it's all good!

message 11: by Kim (new)

Kim I consider most Star Wars EU to be space opera or space fantasy but as Ala said Heir is a really good book. I've been trying to get my gf to read it and if it wins it might push her to join in.

message 12: by Banner (new)

Banner I went with Forever War. Read this as a teenager and loved it.

message 13: by Stelian (new)

Stelian Iancu In the end I voted for The Lathe of Heaven. I was torn between this and Grass. Read Broken Angels two times already so, even though it's a great book, three times would be too much :-).

message 14: by Richard (new)

Richard Stelian wrote: "Read Broken Angels two times already so, even though it's a great book, three times would be too much :-)..."

Ah yes, but three's the magic number!

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Banner, I read forever war in college, and loved it then, too. read it last year with another book group, though, and it's kinda awful now.

message 16: by Banner (new)

Banner Michelle, I'm was kind of worried about that. I read Forever Peace a few years ago and didn't enjoy it as much. I'm going to give it a try...

message 17: by Peggy (new)

Peggy I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to whoever nominated Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang, as I once again jinxed the book I wanted to read by voting for it.

Fortunately, I can still read it all by my lonesome... :-)

message 18: by Nathan (new)

Nathan These polls always throw up titles that I mark to-reads. Fabulous! More to add to a growing to-read list.

message 19: by Brad (new)

Brad It's looking like a done deal for the Forever War.

message 20: by Andre (new)

Andre Brad wrote: "It's looking like a done deal for the Forever War."

Good, because I already had an opportunity to borrow it and start it. Been meaning to read it for some time anyway. Maybe I'll read the whole trilogy over the next two months, like I did with the Fionavar trilogy when we read the Summer Tree.
