I'm reading The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives right now, and the author mentions that John Kennedy Toole comitted suicide because his book was rejected by a few publishers. A Confederacy of Dunces was only published because of his mother's persistence after his death. It's a little dark, but it still made me curious enough to read it along with The Neon Bible.Here's the wiki:
