I was super excited about this book. I had heard about it all over tiktok and I loved the idea of a villain origin story. I was not disappointed when I starting this read. Other than the fact that the first hundred and fifty pages were filled with a girl just liking to bake. I was so confused how this sweet girl who wanted to open a bakery became the queen of hearts. So when the big battle/climax scene happened at the end of the book I felt it was rusted in some way. Of course, I fell for Jest right away. I loved his character. He is what made me keep reading. I wish we could get a backstory novel for him. I would simply inhale that book. As much as I enjoyed all the characters in this book I wish the pacing was faster. The villain revel was one of my favorite things from this book ( Besides Jest obviously ). I felt as if the character Mary Ann should have gotten a bigger role in the book somehow, as well as the Raven. I am always cautious getting into Marissa Meyers books, hence why I haven't finished the Lunar Chronicles, but I hope to finish the series soon. Getting back on track, I was pleased to find that I didn't have an on edge feeling while reading this book, like I had with Cinder and Renegades....more

One of the books I saw on Booktok so I had to read it. I love retellings because it’s fun to see how people can take a story and twist it into their own. I loved this retelling for The Little Mermaid, the only problem is, it didn’t stand out to me that much. Don’t get me wrong I love the book, it just isn’t five star worth for reasons I don’t know....more

Ok so I had an interest in reading this book because it was a beauty and the beast retelling and i had no clue what i was getting into. It was a great story believe me, but for me it was right at the line of too much gore. And it had some other sensitive stuff in there that made me very anxious, not in a good way. Last night when I was getting to the end i almost put it down at around page 308 but I didn’t. I even bought this book at a second hand store because I had been wanting to read it and now I kind of regret buying it. Anyway, that’s in the past now and now i look to the future with my next read of The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan!...more

To be completely honest there needs to be more books that have space pirates in it. I mean, really. Then out of no where they pull the Anastasia plot on the readers and i have to say, loved it. The violence in this book was a little too much, i skimmed the final fight scene. Only time is to tell if i will read the second one. ...more

The surprises that happened to the main character were surprising, even though i kind of saw it coming. I knew the original story but, I accidentally prefer this amazing sifi over the original....more
