It was extremely daunting and took me about 7 months (with a 2 month hiatus) to finish. But I enjoyed it and decided to read one Russian lit novel a year. This year I strayed away from Tolstoy and decided to see how Dostoyevsky matched up. All in all I thought Crime and Punishment was pretty good. It wasn't to difficult to read (it does have a good number of endnotes but no where near as many as W&P) and I ended up finishing it in about a month. The story itself was good but at times I did feel that it was a little drawn out. I never got bored reading it but here and there just wanted to be done with it. I feel like that had to do more with the fact that it was 551 pages and only a few spots of action than anything else.
I would recommend this to others, especially those who enjoy Russian lit. I would also recommend this translation (Pevear and Volokhonsky.) I haven't read anything by other Russian translators but have read their translations of War and Peace, Anna Karenina, and Crime & Punishment and feel that they do an excellent job. Any future Russian Novels that I pick up will most likely be translated by them....more

I first read this in 6th grade (I believe.) Adding it on my shelves I gave it 3 stars because I remember liking it.
