I won this book on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ awhile back. I am a little torn on how I should write this review though. I only made it to page 97. I probably could havI won this book on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ awhile back. I am a little torn on how I should write this review though. I only made it to page 97. I probably could have finished it seen as I am half way there but I just do not really care to.
My main issue was with the grammar/typos. I know that I am not perfect with grammar but I try my best. I just felt that the sentences were awkward and at times lengthy. Like more information was added than necessary to get the point across. I had a teacher in high school who tought us that you should only use the amount of words necessary...more or less you do not want filler. This stuck with me so I had a difficult time with that. One example of this is on page 19. It says "Leonard Wilby lived about 200 yards away, at number 7 Lime Tree Avenue, with his mum and dad, Martha and Cyril." Then on page 75 it says "Eddie's parents invited Len and his parents, Martha and Cyril, over for tea on the Easter Monday, the 2nd." It is not necessary to state their names again or if you want to you do not need to state that they are Len's parents. There were also a few sentences that I read that I just could not make sense of. Page 67, "Eddie was moderately wary of dogs ever since one had bared its teeth at him when he was about seven and one at least on the hill looked playful to say the least." I had a very difficult time with this sentence and had to re-read it a few times. It is extremely awkward in my opinion.
Anyway, I do want to state that even though I had these issues and did not continue reading, the premise of the story is good. I would have maybe liked a little less detail and more of the main action of the story a little sooner (it does not really start with the time travel until about where I gave up.) I give credit to Mr. Croft for writing it and putting it out there for others. It just was not really my thing....more
