I was honestly surprised by how intriguing I found this book. Reviews of Club Shadowlands has been popping up all over my goodreads for years, but considering the genre I've never found a need to pick it up. I did however buy a lot of kindle books last week simply because they were cheap, and this was one of them. The book had some scenes I found a bit uncomfortable, but kudos for pulling on my emotions. I won't continue the series, but for people who liked Fifty Shades of Grey this series is probably for you. And you won't have to read inner goddess 300 times.. I'm gonna refrain from officially rating this book since this genre is not really my cup of tea....more

"Stabbing things that needed stabbing was easy; understanding how to navigate the heart was so much harder."
Honestly, if you like Sarah J. Maas, I feel like you might expect more from a fantasy book than this. The authors attempt at foreshadowing just revealed the whole plot for me, long before things happened, which was a real disappointment. And both the MC and most of the secondary characters bugged me so much throughout the book. I feel like the same things happened over and over again, and the characters would make the same stupid mistakes again and again.. Only thing that made me finish this book was Stolas, but the "light and darkness/good and bad" romance is a story already told millions of times, and I feel like other stories are better so it won't be enough for me to continue the series. Welp.....more
I feel like such a bad person when I give a book a bad rating, but I really didn´t enjoy this book. Never before have I wanted to quit a book so badly, and I was counting the remaining pages until I was finished. The book was way too long considering the story told.

I liked the authors take on magic, and the story in it self could have been great, I just had so many problems with it. There was no world building or character development, I didn´t like any of the characters (well the snarky cat was cool) and I didn´t like the writing. One moment a character seems to do the right thing, and in the next chapter they go against everything they have previously said and done. Also, it was supposed to be a sleeping beauty retelling, but the only thing I got was her name being Aurora and that Maleficent was their "creator"?
The more I think about this book, the more it annoys me.. How it can have above a 4. rating is beyond me.
My biggest pet peeve when it comes to books iThe more I think about this book, the more it annoys me.. How it can have above a 4. rating is beyond me.
My biggest pet peeve when it comes to books is an author saying that a character is a certain way instead of actually showing it during the book. Or worse, saying a character is a certain way and then showing us the exact opposite!
He stares into my eyes. “I am the scariest thing out here. And if anything tries to touch you, they will reckon with me.
Sure you are, cinnamon bun..
Most of the time I’m simply Callie the PI. But when I need to use my power, another side of me surfaces. The siren is the monster inside of me; she wants to take, and take, and take. To wreak havoc, to feast on her victims fear and lust.
We see the siren about 2-3 times during the book? And not once is she this monster she's described to be, which I found disappointing. Why introduce a cool element if you're not going to use it? Maybe she'll make more of an appearance in the other books, but it's safe to say I'll never find out..
And the final part of the book was just a big eye roll for me...

I've hidden why with a spoiler warning. (view spoiler)[ HOW CAN YOU NOT REALIZE THE PERSON WHO KIDNAPPED YOU IS THE BAD GUY YOU'VE LITTERALY SEEN IN YOUR DREAMS AND HALF THE BOOK IS ABOUT..
All those sleeping women in Des’s kingdom, all the paralyzed ones here it can’t be a coincidence. Which means I think I know who the Thief of Souls is. Karnon.
YOU THINK!? It was so so obvious. I though it was established way before.. Dear lord.. She's supposed to be a PI, and it took her one and a half chapter to realise. (hide spoiler)]
I get why people compare The Bargainer series to A Court of Thorns and Roses, but the latter is miles above this one in my opinion.. And if you're looking for a badass and powered PI you could just watch Jessica Jones instead.
I was planning to write a propper review for this book, but it's been three months since I finished it, and I just feel like moving on to new stories. [image]...more
Another cliche book. Even if your a fan of it, there are much better nerd/jock love-stories out there.
There were just so many things that annoyed me tAnother cliche book. Even if your a fan of it, there are much better nerd/jock love-stories out there.
There were just so many things that annoyed me throughout the book. First of all, the main characters who are literally the definitions of nerd and jock. I wouldn´t consider being a nerd a bad thing, but the way it´s presented in this book makes me wonder if she googled #nerd and just based her character on that one sentence that came up first. Then there´s the fact that every girl in school, except Rimmel of course, wants Romeo. When has that ever happened? Romeo was also very disrespectful towards the girls in general, but especially to those who did want him. I think I rolled my eyes more times than I can count....more
