A bit more rigorous than many popular treatments, Great introduction to classical mechanics, Relativity, and Newtonian and Einstein theories gravity. A bit more rigorous than many popular treatments, in terms of understanding the underlying equations, but not overly so for the uninitiated. It is, in fact, a superb initiation to the subject....more

A true beginner-level introduction to Einstein Relativity, both special and general theories, each taken in turn. The book builds gradually to develop an understanding of the often complex mathematics required for Einstein’s Law of Gravity (notably tensor calculus). Not a casual read but greatly rewarding to the motivated reader. After having worked through several of this book’s explanations, I found more advanced texts considerably easier to follow. ...more

Minimally annotated, with just a taste of further reading suggested, the author provides little guidance to where the interested reader might find more information (tho he does acknowledge names and institutions doing research; so the motivated reader could find original sources with some effort). Being largely ignorant of the topic, I learned a good deal more than I had known about the evidence for dark matter and what’s being done to find it. I suspect I am exactly the audience the author was writing for. I just wish the book had been a better resource, rather than a quick skim over the topic.
