I have been watching Phantom of the Opera movies and read the book last month, so I was excited to read this installment. I know I should have read from the beginning of the series so I could get a development of the characters. But there is something about jumping in the middle. Honestly that is how I started watching a lot of TV series. There is something about going backwards. I know that the series is good and I don't have to wait for the next book. Now I will start with the first book of the series Tall and Dark. ...more

The story continues with Edith trying to find an antidote and in the process putting her detective skills to work and learning about herself. On one hand this wasn't my favorite book in the series, but on the other hand it was, because the world building is getting stronger. We not only get a new location, but new ideas with chemicals, politics and classes. I am eager for the next book, which I believe will conclude this story arc. I found myself wanting to know what was going on with Simon and the others who are in Wales. I also was wondering if this book is helping to set up a series about Gwendolyn. I do hope for more stories in the world this author is creating. With how the book ended, I find myself eagerly waiting for the next installment of this series. ...more

TI think this might be my favorite book of the series so far. I will have to wait and see. This book takes us to another location and new characters. The action toward the end of the book had me reading faster, so I could find out what happened. I was also surprised about a reveal that I was not prepared for. I wish I had paid attention to the clues. Someone said that there was a cliffhanger at the end of the book, but I felt it was setting up the next book. I believe the story arc of this book was complete. If it wasn’t I would be really annoyed, but the ending just made me look forward to the next book in the series, and I am glad I don’t have to wait years to find out what happens next. ...more

In this book we get to know more about existing characters and are introduced to a new character and dragons, which I want to know more about. I am looking forward to reading the next installment of the book to find out. Again another cozy read I enjoyed reading. I also like that the second book isn’t throwing in a bunch of new characters or fantasy creatures and races. The world the author is building is developing around dragons and she is making it interesting. ...more
