Let me start off by saying that i've been looking for a book like this; hero and heroine are in love even though the hero says he can only do casual but slowly learns that the heroine is his entire world.
Simple enough right? It rings true to real life and add in some mafia bad boy-ness and you got yourself a decent plot. Wrong.
A couple problems i had with this:
1. The plot falls back on completely overused 'ex OM becomes the heroines stalker and threatens her life which makes the hero claim the heroine because her life is now in danger' trope..... You would think authors would stop, think, and go "Maybe i should try something different from what EVERY author has already done before." Like, how unoriginal can you freaking get?!?!?! To me, this just comes off as laziness to the 10th degree.
2. This was written in 1st person POV but you wouldnt think it by the writing style. These characters were FLAT. So flat and distant that i thought i was reading a 3rd person POV the entire time. There was a lot of telling and no showing. No emotional depth in sight.
3. The heroine could not string 2 sentences. together. to. save. her. life. So much of "But Matteo..." or "Oh... I dont know...." from this truly pathetic excuse for a leading female character. She had no backbone at all. Take one WILD guess what this cookie-cutter woman does when she gets some flowers from her ex husband...
I'll wait...
If you guessed 'packs up her car and tries to leave without saying goodye to anyone because she 'doesnt want anyone to get hurt because of her'' YOU ARE CORRECT!
TLDR; if you're going to write a book as unoriginal as humanly possible i will rant about it.

Ok that’s great, but the author didn’t show any of that. So what you have left is a very sexy book but ultimate shallow and a little empty when you’re down with it.
Especially when you don’t have the MCs saying “I love you to each other. Why make this choice? Why is this a trend in romance these dayS? I swear, more and more authors aren’t having their characters profess their love for each other and I think it’s the stupidest goddam thing in the world. If this is how the genre is gonna go, I might as well watch tacky porn. Ugh.

After years of waiting we've finally come to the epic conclusion of Ms Thalassa's Horsemen series and the crowd.... yawns and shrugs.
In my opinion this installment was a mess. A lot of tell-but-not-show, overly repetitive dialogue and scenes, and the whiplash of the MC's emotions had me going "what the fuck" for a majority of it. But i should clearly state:
This is the best book I've read in some time, and it was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. (which is saying something because reading in 2021 has been a total dumpster fire)
Buttttttttt...
I think it could have been better. I thought adding in a child felt forced and underdeveloped. The first 1/4 of the book was dedicated to the MC's killing each other, when that time could have been spent showing the audience how important baby Ben was going to be to Lazarus instead of just telling us a bunch of times.
Also, I was disappointed with Deaths temperament. I was hoping for an indifferent bad boy with a heart of gold and instead I got a total marshmallow that couldn't think for himself. It was very instalove and not in the good way. The past 3 books i found myself GRIPPING onto my ipad for dear life because the tension was THAT hot. For Death and Laz.... a big ol shrug.
And one more thing.... the author totally jipped Sara, Miriam, and Ana!!!!!! We got a decent amount of time with the other horsemen but jeeeezzzzz this author really slighted the past female MC's!!! The women have always been the stars of the show (in my eyes) and I felt without them in it, it left the book feeling unresolved.
While I was slightly dissapointed, I did still enjoy it and this series has a firm place on my favorites shelf. It's a series I'll keep coming back to just for the writing style and character development. For all the crud that gets released at this time, this book is an uncut gem amongst a bunch of dirt. It had the passion and intensity that I've been longing for. It had a smart heroine AND a respectful, loving hero. I cant ask for much more than that. I highly recommend to anyone thats looking for a solid romance.

It was entertaining and cute but it lacked depth in the romance department. There wasnt enough time with just the hero and heroine being in each others company without the interruption of secondary characters.

1. Essentially **spoiler alert** 2 dumb stars.

That was my face while reading this book. Let me count the ways this was a big dissapointment.
1. Essentially the same exact thing as the first two in this series. The plot to the characters all felt repetitive to the point i knew what was going to happen before it happened. Yes, romance is very predictable, but it got to a point where i knew what each interaction was going to entail and thats no fun. I want to be surprised and this was just another book in a long line of sameness. So this had: Grumpy hero that doesnt want any friends ? Check ☑️ Flighty, irresponsible, damsel in distress heroine? Check ☑️ Being chases by bad guys and just bouncing around Europe? ☑️ No romantic development until the later half of the book? ☑️
2. The hero and heroine Girl. Bruh. Manwhore matched with a 26 year old virgin heroine. GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE. This pissed me off so much because it was so unnecessary. It's 2020. Women are allowed to have sex with other men. But what takes the cake is that this is where were by 50%:
"He’d been fighting it for days, and he was tired of resisting. Kiyo definitely needed to get laid. But it wouldn’t be with Niamh. The woman was far too dangerous.
And this is supposed to be a fated mate story? Get. the. fuck. outta. here. The romance in this book was extremely disappointing. To the standoffish personality of the heroine to the bored, annoyed attitude of the hero, this was all around a chore to read. And the MC's were insufferable to get to know. I didn't care about their tragic backstories because they were just so annoying. A Fated mate story where neither character doesnt recognize their fated mate until they have sex.... thats basically a regular romance. Why bother making it fated mates at all?
3. Ex drama. On top of some poor romantic development, you have to read through a scene where the H is met with an ex hookup and she's all over him and he doesnt push her away. They basically kiss in front of the heroine and he has his hands on her hips. Fucking gross, man. i dont want to read that shit. He doesnt want her, but he doesnt push her away either.
And thats it.
Safety: safe to personal preference No cheating, no OP after meeting No OM drama Some OM drama H is immortal and 200 years old, so he's been around the block (a lot apparently) heroine is a 26 year old virgin because sexism is alive and well Pushing and pulling on both sides....more
