It also features very mature considerations of how imperialist groups act (it was heavily inspired by the Vietnam occupation and war), and what happens when indigenous populations decide to rise up against imperialists. Violence, this book shows, is a tool that harms the aggressor as well as the victim.
Le Guin's language, imagination, and intersectional politics (she's not just anti-racist, but artfully anti-misogynist) are in full force here. I highly recommend this small sci-fi allegory if you are in the mood for a book that is both action-packed and highly critical of many countries which currently rule the world....more
