It was a very quick and easy beach read (even happens in a beach town!). Compelling enough to finish it but not enough that you'll skip on your vacation to stay in your room to read it.
It's also probably one of the best covers I've seen this year. The colors, the view through the window and the 3D rain drops were a nice touch!
With that said, I did feel like the characters were quick to confess every details to each other and most of the twists were easy to see coming... a few pages before the main character figured them out.
I would recommend if you're looking for a quick fun summer read!...more

New nanny working for a family liThis is my third book by the author so by this point I know she's great at creating an atmosphere, a creepy ambiance.
New nanny working for a family living in a remote house in Scotland. Past nannies leaving after the house seems haunted with its dark history and secrets... you get it.
It was interesting, even a bit unique since the main character wasn't likeable and that the format is through letters she's writing to a lawyer from prison since she's accused of murdering one of the child in her care...
The ending was a bit lukewarm in my opinion but I can't wait to see how others feel about it all!
If you're looking for a quick read for the fall and have liked her other books, I would recommend.
And not in a good way... So I like me some weird books. I admit it. But this just felt a bit pointless in the endWhat the actual fuck did I just read?!
And not in a good way... So I like me some weird books. I admit it. But this just felt a bit pointless in the end.
The book started with some potential. It gave me some similar vibes to the movie Orphan. Basically a little girl that seems to hate her mom and doesn't act like she's 4.
You start wondering if there's something supernatural or if mommy is actually the crazy one or maybe daddy's abusing her?!
It just felt like it was trying to be shocking but without any actual substance.
No spoilers but... disappointing ending. Not fully terrible but I expected more....more

But seriously this was really good! Perfect summer read tooWell well well... no alcoholic wife that just got out of the coma with a cheating husband??
But seriously this was really good! Perfect summer read too since it happens at a summer camp.
Fifteen years ago, 3 girls disappeared at Camp Nightingale. When it finally reopens Emma goes back as a instructor to try and figure out what happened to her friends.
Who did it? Is Emma crazy? I didn't see some twists coming and it was intriguing!
Ok I tried... but I had to put down this books at 56%. Even the audiobook couldn't help me finish it.

I don't say this often nor lightly but this book had zero redeeming qualities. Having read and loved Big Little Lies (a bit to my surprise!), I was excited to read Moriarty's newest work.
In BLL, her characters were attaching and made me care about their stories. In this one, I'm assuming she meant for the characters to not be so loveable but damn... I also hated how much shit the "Instagram model" got. We get it, you judge them and their plastic surgeries, no need to mention it every time she appears.
The "twist" that happens at 55% made me put the book down because honestly at this point the book is a fucking mess and I can't see how this will improve.

I was excited to pick up this psychological thriller because it has been getting some hype but it was a disappointment. Didn't care much for the characters, the twist was so obvious, the writing just okay. The only redeeming quality was the audiobook which made it possible for me to finish this book.
Unless you never read thrillers I don't think it's worth it....more

Don't recommend the audiobook as some characters sounded quite robotic and it took me out of the story.
Overall it left me wanting to find more books with a similar premise since it didn't give me what I want.
Any recommendation of books where you don't know who's crazy/telling the truth?...more
This was a mediocre YA mystery. No real complaints about it but I can't say it kept me on my toes or that I didn't see the twists coming.

I listened to it as an audiobook which probably helped.
The only thing is that the main character is called Ellery and that sounds exactly like Hellery - what I've been calling celery because I hate it with a passion... Not sure how I feel about that....more

I caught it twice in the month it took me to read this book. Twice! I'm rarely sick so it's clearly a thing.
Post-apocalyptic book where most people die from a super flu. That part was my favorite.
It then becomes a battle between Good and Evil. Some fantasy elements were included. This part was still solid. I liked how we got to follow the characters and get to know them. I felt some similarities to Station Eleven so if you like The Stand I would give this one a shot too!...more

Explicit sexual violeRead this without realizing it was the same author as "Pretty Girls" and thought they were equally dark... well that explains it!
Explicit sexual violence which was a bit too much for me but still an interesting character-driven mystery.
Not my fav. Not sure if I should read more from this author.
P.S. DO NOT GET THE AUDIOBOOK. The whispering then screaming was so annoying especially since I often listen to audiobooks in the shower... it was not fun....more

Karin Slaughter is on my never reading again list. While her books are quite popular, I find them too sexually violent for me. In a gratuitous way. I never thought I'd find books triggering but hers are up there....more

I loved Dark Matter and the Wayward Pines series so I might be extra salty here but, if I hadn’t read these books before this one, I would have DNFed it after a few pages.
The premise was intriguing. People that saw an aurora borealis go crazy and kill people. Okay. I like post-apocalyptic books But the premise was the only good thing here. That and the fact that the author is good keeping you at the edge of your seat but The writing, the characters, the dialogues were just straight up bad.
I'm not a violent person and I would never wish harm to anyone... but I was hoping the children here would die. There were insufferable.
The ending was not satisfying at all. I wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy.
I think I’ll stick to reading his newer books from now on because they were much better....more

This book follows an ex-wife obsessed by her replacement... or so you'll think.
The book did contains some twists I didn't see coming but I can't say I cared... at all. Contrary to the other reviews, I don't think this book will blow your mind. It was another domestic thriller with a drinking non reliable woman. It's now so common, it's straight up boring. I'm literally wondering if we read the same book.
If you're going to read it, I recommend the audiobook since it made the experience more enjoyable. I'm not sure I would have finished it otherwise!...more

The writing style won't be for everyone, it's very casual and mostly in the form of journal entries. However my main criteria for thrillers is to be surprise by at least some of the twist and.... I thought I knew what was what... I was wrong!
If you're looking for a book you won't want to put down, I recommend it!

You're following the story of a woman (2.5?) There's no way I can review this book without sounding like an asshole but I'll try.
Boring. Unmemorable.
You're following the story of a woman who's in an abusing relationship. Classic bait and switch. As soon as she gets married to him, she realizes he's a monster. However, even if the audiobook narrator did a great job, I just had troubling caring much about her or feeling like she didn't have opportunities to get out of there...
