The Midwives of Lark Lane is set in the 1960’s in Liverpool, it carries on with Cathy's, Alice’s and their friends stories. They all work hard to open the maternity hospital, it’s nice how they all support each other, it's exciting when the first baby is born and Jack gets what he deserves once again.

Molly is transformed from being a rather selfish person, she becomes interested in history, architecture, domestic tasks, and helping both her grandfather and Rory overcome the tragedy in their lives. The Heart Goes On is a historical saga set in Scotland and Canada, the distance makes it hard for the young couple to keep in contact, other people interfering in their relationship doesn't help and luckily they have a unbreakable bond. Helene's caring, she helps everyone and works for the local doctor Hugo Marchant, Elise owns a small cafe in town, and Florence looks after the cottage garden, she's a wonderful cook and homemaker. All three of the sisters become involved in the fight to free France, they all face hardship, danger, loss and the challenges of living in an occupied country. Daughter of War story is full of wonderful descriptions about the beautiful French countryside, the forest near the Baudin sister’s house, and life in the village of Sainte-Cecile and how the locals all support, help each other during the terrible war years and German reprisals.
Dinah Jefferies has done it again, the book is well written and I'm so excited that it’s part of a series, and I can’t wait until the next book is published and discover what else happens to Helene, Elise and Florence and especially after France has been liberated by the American's. Rose is concerned about the safety of the children living at the orphanage next door, they look thin, are forced to play outside in the cold weather, and she hears crying at night.
Christmas with the Cornish Girls is a delightful story about the nurses and doctors caring for the injured soldiers at the convalescent home during WW II, you get to know the staff and owner Lady Babs Symmonds, discover what’s happening at the orphanage, how Lily plans the Christmas party with the help from cook, Eva, the children are invited and it's a huge success. Characters from the first book in series Wartime with the Cornish Girls are included in the uplifting narrative, I loved both books by Betty Walker and five stars from me. ...more

The newspapers later went on about “the curse of Tutankhamun� and anyone who visited his sacred burial place or had entered the tomb would be forever cursed.
Evelyn marries the love of her life, Sir Brograve Beauchamp, they have a daughter Patricia, and an elderly Evelyn has a number of stokes over the years. Her most recent stoke has affected her speech, she can’t walk and her memory is rather fuzzy. When an Egyptian academic, Ana Mansour starts asking Evelyn questions about what was in Tutankhamun’s tomb, it causes her a lot of distress and Brograve becomes very concerned for her health. Evelyn tries to remember exactly what happened fifty years ago, should she keep the secret or finally reveal the truth and can she trust Ana Mansour?
A fascinating dual timeline story, set in the 1920’s and the 1970’s and it takes you from Egypt to England. I enjoyed reading about Evelyn traveling to Egypt with her father, the adventures they had together and it was exciting when they found King Tutankhamun’s tomb with Howard. A story full of intrigue, superstitions, history, and the relationship between Evelyn and Brograve is wonderful and so is the book.

The Prague is a hospital ship leaving for Normandy, Nellie sneaks on board and nothing could prepare her for what she witnesses at Omaha beach. Nellie’s taking photos to send back to the Chicago Tribute, she finds herself close to the action and German soldiers are still patrolling nearby. She meets resistance fighter Jean-Paul Breslau, he and Nellie end up traveling through the French countryside together.
They come across a little girl hiding in some bushes, they sneak into the town and what the Germans are doing is truly barbaric. They can’t leave little Claire, an orphaned child with special needs on her own, and they take her to a nearby convent. Here they meet three dedicated nuns, Sister Maria-Theresa, Sister Angelica and Sister Raphael. With the Germans in pursuit, Nellie and Jean-Paul need to get to safety in Switzerland, taking the nuns and three young special needs children with them on the dangerous journey.
A Picture of Hope by Liz Tolsma, is based on true facts, while filled with the horror of what the Germans did during WW II, it’s also an uplifting story, about believing in what they are doing is good, god is always with them and guiding them on the right path.
