The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

I definitely enjoyed this book, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Deborah's story, in my opinion the most interesting part of the book, seemed tacked on at the end. I wish Skloot had intertwined the Lacks family's story and the science of HeLa together more. The chunky structure of the book took away from the fascinating material. That said, Skloot explained the nitty-gritty science well, and impressively worked through the ethical issues. The journalistic aspect of the story was also interesting: the difficulties that the author experienced in talking to the Lacks family and uncovering information surprised me. This book was readable and info-packed, but at times still managed to be deep and moving.

I highly recommend this one! It is so interesting. I will return the Lick library copy after my book club meeting next weekend.
