it was amazing

I was lucky enough to receive this ARC at YALLFEST this year in downtown Charleston.

As a note, I am not good at writing book reviews. I am not good at writing in general :P

But this book was exactly the reason why I love YA. Magic Realism is probably my favorite subgenre of YA and this book really fits it.

Here's what I like about it

1) The character growth of Scarlett. I could just feel her growing stronger and stronger as each day went on

2) New mysteries to be solved every chapter and everyday

3) The writing!!! The descriptions were perfect. The ~aesthetic~ (I think that's what all the youngin's call it these days) just fits the book really well and I just wanted to live there.

4) The ending. It surely left me wanting more, but in a way where it's not the worst cliffhanger in the world. It left things very interesting!

I finished this book in 2 days which is astounding to me because I've listened to only audiobooks this year. In fact, I believe this was my ONLY book that I read in print this year. It's so good. I cannot wait for the next book and to see what the author has in store.

Anna Much more interested in this now with your seal of approval.

Yes! I think you will like it too. I've seen people comparing it to the Night Circus which I can understand, but in my opinion, it's less driven by romance and more by the mystery.
