Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City

Poverty in America is real. Homelessness in America is real. And forced eviction is something that some people in America face often multiple times in their life. If you are someone who believes that people become homeless because of their own laziness, then you should read this book. If you are someone that believes that people sometimes become homeless due to reasons beyond their ability to control, you should read this. If you are a landlord or a renter you should read this. If you just have any interest at all in the lives of the poor in this country you should read this.
The author did a wonderful job with this book, actually living in the areas that he writes about, actually befriending those he writes about, both the tenants and the landlords. This book is eye opening.

For this documentary actresses who had at some point been homeless were sent around councils with stories. None of them secured accommodation for the night, all of them were interviewed by men, all the councils apologised for "falling short" and said they would implement measures dahdahdah ie. lip service. Probably the same in the US and UK>
