Cinderella is a classic tale written by Berlie Doherty. Doherty kept me intrigued as she writes a descriptive analysis of how Cinderella was treated badly by her family. This enabled me to build up my own picture of how unfairly she was treated which made me sympathise with Cinderella. Furthermore, I enjoyed reading this book due to the fact that Cinderella was very determined to go to the ball. Doherty captures Cinderella's determination by using a symbolic "hazel tree" that Cinderella relies on to turn her in to a "beautiful princess". Furthemore, rather then writing the conventional pumpkin that is commonly associated with the story of Cinderella, the "hazel tree" became a focal feature that Cinderella trusted and relied on. A beautiful fairy tale.

Ali Thanks Akilah. Berlie Doherty is one of my favourite writers, recommended to me by a lecturer on my PGCE, nearly 20 years ago!
