really liked it

** spoiler alert ** I didn't love the last bit of this--seemed like a pointless infliction of pain upon the main character to have her wait all that time for someone we know (from explicit statements in the text about his tinnitus) actually survived the war. But I enjoyed the rest of the book and since I previously knew nothing about the Cephalonia massacre of Italian soldiers or the earthquake that followed the war, I appreciated the introduction through fiction. While I haven't seen the movie, I know from reading this book that Nicolas Cage was horribly miscast and it must have been painful to watch.
