~Rating 3.5
Two down on their luck twins, who are about to age out of the horrid foster care system, find themselves thrust into a world they never knew existed and that weren't already enough they discover not only are they Fae but they're the rightful blood heirs to the throne. But the current Heirs, children for the Council who have been ruling for the past two decades in the royal family's absence, are not about to give up the positions they've come to recognize as their own.
And so, they do everything in their power to make the girls lives a living hell. Fortunately, they girls aren't about to give up without a fight. They may not want the throne, but they'll fight for their right to stay in a world where they, at last, feel at home. However, the boys aren't the only ones who might be out for their heads.
Because apparently there is a greater threat looming, one that threatens not only them but all of Fae existence. The Nymphs. Creatures with no true power of their own, except the ability to steal that of their Fae counterparts.
The Characters:
Tory - The Bold Twin
She takes no shit from anymore. Beautiful, snarky, confident, she never shows fear, constantly butting heads and going toe to toe with the Heirs despite knowing the risk.
Darcy
The younger of the two, I'm not quite sure how to label her. She's definitely more tame than Tory that's for sure. But living their life they both have, she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself as well.
Darius - King of the School
Our not so friendly resident dragon and leader of the asshole heirs. Powerful, cocky, mysterious and yet also just certifiable dickhead. He torments and humiliates the girls, especially Tory, from day one.
Caleb - Top Vamp
He legit takes a bite out of our girl Tory the moment she and Darcy arrive at the school. Less of a dick than his friends, though that's not saying much, he is still power obsessed and possessive, laying claim to Tory as his source despite her protests.
Seth - Alpha Wolf
Overly-touchy feeling, manipulative prick. He pretends to be care about Darcy at a point, but it proves to be an absolute sham and hope he gets stuck with a silver dagger. Even though I know he won't and I'm not even sure if that's the rule in this world. But hey it is for most werewolves so I am going with it.
Max - The Siren
In this world, I guess men can be sirens too. Thief of emotions, memories and secrets, he much like Darius places a key role in tormenting Tory. And since I'm writing this review while being half-way through the second book it pisses me off that given he is hiding a massive secret himself he would use others weakness' against them. Basically, like the others, he sucks.
Orion - Professor Vamp
The one who brings the girls into the world of Fae, yet also doesn't approve of their claim to their throne. Which begs the question, who the hell sent this guy to find them? And also, how the hell do they choose teachers at this school? This is Hogwarts level bullshit right here.
The Relationships
Darius & Tory
The antagonism between these two is palpable. But so is the chemistry. It's like back and forth between whether they will set each other on fire or set fire to some sheets. That being said, the way this book ended definitely put on douse of any potential of the latter. At least for a while, because the boy is going to need to put lot of effort into making it up to Tory and hopefully do a lot of begging. I WANT HIM TO GROVEL.
Caleb & Tory
Sorry to those who do not like love triangles, this is happening. Much like Darius and Tory, I see the chemistry there. It is not quite as flammable, but its still hot. And unlike in the former case, these two allow themselves a tantalizing taste. But as with the case with Daruis, Caleb blows it all to hell with his actions, or really inaction at the end of this book.
Orion & Darcy
Sadly, for some reason, Darcy has a major crush on this poor excuse for a teacher. She does not share this information with anyone, not even Tory, but its pretty obvious. Of course teacher student relationships are strictly forbidden, but I think we all know where this is headed.
Anyways this book was highly addicting, despite a lot of the characters being downright manipulative and toxic. It's kind of like Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars or 90210 in that the characters are not really the best of people, but you stick around because you're addicted to the drama.
