The Year of the Gadfly

Once I got past the Dead Poets Society homage moments, this was a fun read - an interesting lesson to writers who want to see how intertwining multiple points of view can add to the richness of the story. The language was clever and fun though not always believable; however, the characters were complex enough to hold my attention. Yes, there were a lot of over-done prep school story moments - the awkward first romance, the cool kids and the wanna-be-cool-kids, the scandalous school history, the secret society that enlightens and brings about chaos - but this story was truly original. The final section especially kept me up at night as I couldn't put the book down until I knew how it ended.
