The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium #1)

I was initially skeptical about this book due to all the hype surrounding it. It's always a bit nerve-wracking to start a book that's been so widely praised. However, I ended up really enjoying it. I had already seen the Swedish film adaptation and loved it, so I was hoping the book would be just as compelling—and to my surprise, the two were quite similar. The story was both gripping and disturbing, and the mystery kept me hooked, making it a fast read.

That said, there were aspects I didn't enjoy, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. First, Stieg Larsson has a tendency to ramble on, providing so much detail that feels irrelevant to the core of the story. It reminded me of Charles Dickens, who often seemed paid by the word—though Dickens does it better. The length of the book felt a bit excessive at times, especially when the extra details didn’t add much value. Additionally, some of the characters felt a little flat—there were moments where their actions and words just didn’t feel quite right.
Despite these issues, I really enjoyed the book and plan to continue with the trilogy.
