Hey y’all - Andrew here. These are the content warnings for YOU WEREN’T MEANT TO BE HUMAN.
A quick reminder that this is my first adult book. It is about reproductive abuse, pregnancy as violence, self-destruction, loss of agency, and every nasty feeling I as the author have ever carried with me as an autistic trans man, especially since the fall of Roe v. Wade in 2022. If you put this in the YA section, I’m going to get in trouble. Thank you.
Content Warnings
* Infanticide involving cannibalism
* Graphic depictions of pregnancy and childbirth as violence and body horror; on-page early stillbirth with subsequent desecration of corpse; on-page botched DIY abortion
* Narrative focus on suicidality and planning suicide, with no attempt made; similar focus on self-harm, shown on-page
* Consistently unclear sexual boundaries and consent, up to and including rape, often involving confusion on behalf of the survivor
* Sexual fantasies/intrusive thoughts involving abuse and bestiality
* Domestic abuse
* Graphic violence
* Weird parasitic bug shit, needles, general transphobia and ableism, etc.

I am very excited for this book. I have had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for your last two books. I had never read queer horror before discovering your books, and now it is one of my favorite genres. Thank you for sharing your voice with the world!

I'm so excited for this book! Even as a cis-woman, pregnancy has always terrified me and I want no part of it, so I sort of understand the terror that transmen also have to deal with. Sterilization surgery after the Roe v. Wade overturning was a suicide-prevention measure for me. Fuck transphobes, fuck the politics of our "free" country. You're a great author Andrew!!!

Man i need to read this YESTERDAY. We'll see how I do with those content warnings along the way. But, as a fan of horror and a neurodivergent trans person: I would not have enjoyed all your other books as much if they had been written by anyone but you. These themes are used in so many movies and books. It does not feel the same. Your writing makes me feel so seen. Can't wait to see where your horrible beautiful mind went with this one.
