The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)

At first I rated this book "it was OK" but changed it to "liked it" because even though I found fault with it, I have to admit that the story held my interest and I would like to read the sequel (even though it's extremely violent).
I also have the movie but haven't seen it yet. I've heard the movie is not as good as the book but isn't that usually the case?.
I was disappointed because I expected more due to all the hype. You can't go anywhere now without seeing ads for the trilogy but at the time when the book club picked it, I hadn't even heard about it.
I found the writing plain - I'm sure something was lost in translation.
The Bible quotations were sure creepy. Was anyone else as shocked as I was that stuff like that is in the Bible?
I didn't like the characters - the 90-pound goth girl for whom much larger men are no match, not to mention she's also a self-taught genius on computers (particularly Macs which were mentioned so often Larsson must have had shares in the company). I'm tired of seeing 90-pound girls on TV and in movies and I really didn't want to read about yet another one. Am I alone here?
I'm also tired of middle-aged men whose are God's gift to women. Wasn't that Blomqvist quite the catch?

The book was obviously written by a male. It was violent and the sex casual.
But the mystery kept me reading - I really wanted to find out what happened to Harriet. And I was definitely surprised when it was revealed.
I liked Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander was oddly appealing. All in all a satisfying read. I will definitely read the next book.
