message 152: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) This could either help us or backfire but Sam & Melanie if y'all find cake or bike we'll score our first non called point. Although strategy doesn't always work it all boils down to what items are called.

message 153: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I could claim either one of those. The book I plan on reading has sunshine, bike, and cake plus it'll work for the other team challenge! :)

message 154: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Don't you love it when it works out like that!

message 155: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm going to read Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews

message 156: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Jenne wrote: "Don't you love it when it works out like that!"

Yes - it's great! This is the first week I'm reading the same book for both. :)

message 157: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Ohhh Jenne I'll be excited to read your review for that one! I've been reading the Kate Daniels series and I love it so far.

I'll have to look through my challenges before deciding what I'm reading this week, but I'll try to find something with a cake or a bike :)

message 158: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I was wanting to save it for a rainy day since it's so long till the next Kate Daniels book comes out. But it works for this and words with friends challenge so I'm cashing in on my rainy day. I'm excited to see what she does with Andrea. Besides Kate and Curran she's my favorite. Gotta love a girl with serious firearm power! lol

message 159: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Which book in the series are you up to Sam?

message 160: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I've only read the first two so far, but I bought Magic Strikes a few weeks ago, so I'll probably be reading it soon!

message 161: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Ok going to be doing a lot of reading because this morning leaving the doctor's office I fell down some stairs and broke my ankle...but I'm trying to look on the bright side of this... more reading time and my son will have to make supper for the next few days :)

message 162: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Sorry to hear you got hurt , but you have the right frame of mind to see the positive in this!

message 163: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Ouch Jennifer! Hope you feel better soon.
Sam that's where the series really takes off IMO. Magic strikes was super good!

message 164: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Ouch! Sorry to hear that Jennifer. At least it gives you a good excuse to do lots of reading!

Jenne, I may end up reading it this week. I'm torn between Magic Strikes and The Fall of Hyperion. I'm just worried that The Fall of Hyperion might be too long for me to finish in a week...

message 165: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) KD books usually move pretty fast

message 166: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Thank you so much for the kind words...and I'm going to choose the book I have been putting off forever now...Under the Dome by Stephen King...it is 35 hours long that's like 1000 paperback pages but since I have the extra time it's a perfect pick.

message 167: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Jenne wrote: "I'm going to read Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews"

This one of the many series I have on my TBR list

message 168: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) You have to read the Kate Daniels books first. Lots of world building but they're great. I wish I could kick people's butts like she does lol. I'd of made me a career in MMA, lol

message 169: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I figure if I go with Magic Strikes, I can finish it in a couple of days, but I've also been putting off Fall of Hyperion for a long time and I'd like to finish it before the end of the year. Decisions, decisions! lol

message 170: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I know what you mean! Magic Strikes was super good though. You'll get my MMA reference after you read it lol. We're not to the point yet in the game where time is of the essence so read which ever one you want to the most!

message 171: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Along with sunshine I was going to go for belt, eyes, and musical instrument...Is there any changes I can make to further our progress?

message 172: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I think I'm going to read The Fall of Hyperion. There's no cake or bike in it, but it seems like I have a LOT of books with those items, so I should be able to read one next week.

I'm going to go for sunshine, hood and musical instrument, but if there's a body part that will help more than others, let me know and I'll see if my book has it :)

message 173: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm probably going to use tail for my body part and I'm torn between necklace or glasses for clothing.

message 174: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) On the body parts I'd definitely go with your rarer ones. A lot of them you can get on the covers. Dawn said when using a cover for a body part it needs to be visible and I think unclothed. So that would cover any of them that are part of a face.

message 175: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Jenne wrote: "I'm probably going to use tail for my body part and I'm torn between necklace or glasses for clothing."

I'm surprised but not a lot of the books I've checked so far has necklace.

message 176: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Yea same here I can't decide on it or glasses lol

message 177: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Sorry Jenne, I started Under the Dome and 15 minutes in I decided I wanted a book that was lighter and more cheerful...so I am changing my book to The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale :)

message 178: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) NP!

message 179: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Oh I loved The Goose Girl. But it was always one of my favorite fairy tales as a kid.

message 180: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Since I listen to audiobooks The Goose Girl is kinda neat because it is performed by a full cast not just one narrator doing different voices.

Review
I can't believe I've never heard of this fairy tale before because I love it.
I loved the odd-duck (or should I say goose) main character--with her magical powers and coming into her own. The love-interest in this book is also swoon-worthy.
And of course, there are super evil villains that you will love to hate.
It builds to a phenomenal climatic ending. This story did not disappoint in any area.

I put Enna Burning on my TBR list. I really loved the bucket of oatmeal mush she used to get revenge on the boys.

I have always loved Andrea and she kicks as much a$$ as Kate. Roman is becoming a favorite too and I hope to see him in future KD books. Andrea is putting the pieces of her life back together following the last two KD books. Her investigation into 4 dead shapeshifters leads to another round of the pack vs more gods and immortals. This time we meet Egyptian Gods. While all of this is happening there's still the issue of Andrea joining the pack or not. The Andrews team has no shortage in the imagination dept. some of the monsters and creatures that they come up with are so complex and unusual. I really admire the writing style.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) So one team is really focusing on getting non called items already. I think they have like 6 or 7 points right now. I wouldn't mind us shooting for the same goal but at the same end of the stick if one of the items you already have a point for does get called then the whole team is only getting 3 items for the week. What are y'alls thoughts on the matter? In previous rounds my team came on strong but in the end the team that has the best shot at winning is the team that has items called that they haven't claimed yet. I've been trying to claim mine around the basis of whats more difficult to find and what the rest of you are claiming as well.

message 188: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Oooh! I see what you mean! The Fearsome Foursome is all choosing the same words every week. Why don't we start picking at least one extra category a week and all of us search for the same item in that category. That way we don't back ourselves against the wall either way...I hope that makes sense :) But I'm willing to do whatever needs to be done.

message 189: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I think that's a wonderful idea Jennifer!

message 190: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Sounds good to me. :)

message 191: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I like that idea! :)

I'm hoping to finish my book tonight. I decided I felt like reading something lighter than what I had planned, but oh god the book I chose is dullllll. I only have 30 or so pages left though.

message 192: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Sam, is there anyway you could do the word "boots"...since I did boots this week it would give us that extra point...if not that is okay

Let's all plan on discussing with each other before we start reading on Friday so we can coordinate :)

message 193: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Yup, my book has boots! Hopefully I'll finish this stupid book tonight.

message 194: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I think I'm going to claim Glasses, Curly Hair, and Cake as extra items this week. :)

message 195: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) After the reviews are in for the week ill make us a post of the items were close to having too.

message 196: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'm going to go with boots, cake and tail. I'll have my review up soon!

message 197: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Good deal Sam that'll put us close on several items :)

message 198: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Great...those items will give us cake & boots for "sunshine" week...If Melanie could keep in mind "tail" for this upcoming week that would be great and then we just wait for the next item to be called :)

I do have a question...why on the spreadsheet are there no points listed for "The First Ladies" and "Badass 8"?

message 199: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I would claim tail this week, but I searched my book and it doesn't have it. :( I'll try to get it next week, though. :)

message 200: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Week three: Sunshine

I read: You Don't Love Me Yet - Jonathan Lethem
Rating: 1/5
Finished: December 19th 2012

I picked up this book by accident a couple of years ago, instead of another book I wanted by the same author. This is probably my least favorite book that I've read all year. It was completely flat; I felt nothing for any of the characters (except maybe annoyance.) I don't even know how to begin describing the plot of this book, because it barely has one. A woman with some serious relationship issues falls in love with 3 different guys in the span of about 20 pages(but don't worry, because give her a paragraph or two and she'll change her mind again!), there's a band involved which one of her lovers tries to infiltrate (for lack of a better word) and oh yeah, someone steals a kangaroo. This novel was a complete train-wreck, and still managed to be unbelievably dull.

Items to claim:
Sunshine:
"Let the hellish sunshine make its case..." (pg. 80)
Cake: "...wrecking his cake like his bathroom stowaway had wrecked her salad." (pg. 121)
Boots: "...speckless suede work boots, which Lucinda knew he kept in his locker..." (pg. 2)
Tail: "...neck and forepaws and tail slack as a sleeper's." (pg. 61)
