Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Oo and I were talking on another group and she put this forth to me: If you ever want to do an inter-team mini challenge or comp, let me know.

Oo's the captain for the Leather Black Jackets Team (I think they are in 2nd place at the moment).

What do you think oh great Atomic Captain...do we want to do an inter-team mini challenge or competition with these Rebel Rousers?

✿C✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Cathie, I'm definitely up for it :) Sounds great!

And... I've finished Plague Ship by Clive Cussler audiobook, really enjoyed it :)

message 661: by ✿C (new)

✿C✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments As for the seven Percent solution, what do we think?

message 662: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Well, it looks like Oo's challenge thread has decided to wait until after the Seven Percent Soulution Comp. You can go check out the discussion on the link above, but I don't think much is going to happen now that our evil mods (only joking of course) have set up this latest challenge!! It's a biggie!!

I'm up for trying the Seven Percent Comp :-).

SOME CHANGES:

If only one Team completes this task, we will award them seven (7) additional books/points. If it is split, as it was for May, we will award each Team reaching the goal four (4) additional books/points. Any Team that completes at least three (3) of the following categories, for a total of 21 books, will receive a one (1) book advantage.

message 664: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments So, to get this straight, we have to read 7 books from all 7 categories, unless we choose to skip a category then we have to read 14 books from another category?

message 675: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments LOL! Well, ShoSho and I are reading that book in July as a "buddy read" for another group. It won't work for Category #4, but it will for #1.

message 676: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 446 comments Yaaay one found 6 to go! I Was thinking about the challenge and how to participate in a way that doesn't change my reading schedule! Thanks

message 677: by ✿C (new)

✿C✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments If you want, you're welcome to figure out what categories a book might fit and I'll work out where to put them?

message 678: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 446 comments I can give you a list of books I'm going to read for buddy reads in June and July.

message 679: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Actually, a lot of your reading schedule will work for Cat#7, ShoSho. But, I'll let you figure it out. No more hints than that. LOL!

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments And sorry I've been missing. I haven't gotten any notifications for this thread.

message 684: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I plan on doing all 3 BOTMs for June, so there's 3 books (providing I participate in the discussions!).

We have to pick book covers that match the team in front of us and the one behind us, right? And we use the spreadsheet from this upcoming weekend's results right? So until we know the results of our standing I can't pick the books for the book cover sections of the challenge.

I have 21 books on my reading list for June (including the 3 mentioned above) but I don't know where or if they fit in? My list is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

Claire, since you offered to help, when you have some time over the next week (we still have lots of time) can you maybe take a look and see where they may fit in? I'd really appreciate any help from anyone interested in taking a look :-)

message 685: by ✿C (last edited May 22, 2013 02:55PM) (new)

✿C✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hiya,

Of course, I'm going home for the weekend so I'll hopefully have a bit of time to relax :)

As several people seem to be reading BOTMs and Buddy reads, do you object to me doing the other categories? I'm not great at reading alongside other people!! :)

Had a good day today, think my house hunting is over and I had dinner with a friend. :)

message 686: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Well, we need 49 books in 49 days so I think we all we'll need to try and do as many categories as possible.

Claire just read where you want to fit in; that's what I'm going to do. I figure if I read even 15 books in 49 days I will have done well in contributing my share. As long as we get 7 books read in each category we've got our points and from I saw during the last comp we have a wonderful team of gals who step up to the plate :-)

I won't be doing things I don't understand (unless of course someone can do a bang up job of explaining them to me so I do understand). I will do the BOTM's, see if I have any cover books, see if any of my books can be included in the other teams shelves section. Some of my titles may fit in with the spelling out challenge.

Question: Can we wait until near the end to categorize all our books and figure out which section they fit into, or do we have to declare what we are reading them for as we read them?

message 687: by ✿C (new)

✿C✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I think we have to declare the categories as they're finished but up til that point we can mix and match. If there's a category you know a book will fit, let me know, if not, I'll see how I can squeeze them in!

I will create some sort of spread sheet for it over the next few days so we know what needs doing :)

message 688: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Thanks for all you do Claire; if I can help in any way just ask me :-).

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I have a question about the challenge...for the buddy read category, do those have to take place in NBRC or can we participate in them in a different group and provide a link?

Sorry, Susan. They must take place in the main NBRC group.

message 693: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hi ladies!!!

I have been MIA again, sorry. I'm still working the mid-shifts at work which are either 9-6 or 10-7 so that pretty much leaves me no time in the morning or evening :( I have been feeling a little bit under the weather and been really tired here lately.

I went back to the dr last week and my virus is still present. Yesterday, I was off from work but spent my day taking care of my son who apparently had a 24/48 hour stomach virus. This morning I got up to go to work and I had to call in because I must have caught what my son had yesterday :( I also lost my voice again this week. I just can't seem to shake this nasty virus.....GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I will help with the Seven Percent Challenge but I'm not sure I understand it completely. I think the ones I would be most interested in is #1, #5, #6, and #7. I will try to help out with some of the other ones too if I can :)

I hope this finds all of you doing well :) Take care and hope you all are enjoying your books/reading!!!

message 694: by Cathie (last edited May 22, 2013 09:29PM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments For the comp: Do not count now as books I have read

I just started to go through other people's shelf on other teams and I could do 3 matches in that category:

Cathy G. from the Bedazzled Blue Team has Easy on her shelf

Carol from Blast Off Bronze has Quiet Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking on her shelf

Turtlecollector from team Hobbit Blue has The Knife of Never Letting Go The Knife of Never Letting Go on her shelf.

I will look a bit more later on.

SOME CHANGES and an EXAMPLE:

The letters “N.B.R.C. have been added to Category #5.

md, from Cerulean (AKA “Hobbit Blue) provided this example, which I tweaked a bit to include an example of a series name and to include the newly added letters.
You're not allowed to reuse a letter and since “N.B.R.C.   T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E. only has two letter 'T's in it that's all your allowed to have. We couldn’t read 7 books that qualified for the letter 'T,' we'd have to pick another letter.

For example:

B - The Bridgertons #4 - Romancing Mister Bridgerton

T - The Da Vinci Code
O - The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
W - Where'd You Go, Bernadette

T - Tom's Midnight Garden
E - Everything is Illuminated
M - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

We've completed challenge #5 because we've read 7 books (and used 7 letters).

If we wanted to do this challenge again instead of doing one of the others (say #4) we can do so; but, we can only choose from the letters we haven't used already.

In this example it would be: “N.R.C   E.R.   A.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.

We're allowed to do it a 3rd time, but we would only be able to choose from the letters that are remaining.

The letter 'E' appears 5 times so that would mean there could be 5 books that qualify for that letter and the remaining 2 books would have to be another letter.

✿C✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Just finished Heretic (Templar Chronicles, #1) by Joseph Nassise , really good book. I've found it rare to find a book of that sort (action, following a military team sort of book) which doesn't end up with some kind of romantic involvement but this one managed it. Which was a refreshing change!

Going to read Song of the Fairy Queen by Valerie Douglas next and I'll be putting together a spreadsheet on the train home tomorrow.

Been a good few days, fingers crossed I've found a house and I'm off for the bank holiday weekend to see my family :D

Robin, I hope you feel much better soon.

message 700: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Yeah Claire! Fingers are crossed for the house! Have a wonderful holiday (our long weekend was last weekend).

Have a safe trip back to your family :-)
