Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I'm good with selecting our own or having you place them, whichever works best for you Claire.

How many books does it equal out to each person to read and do we each have to read 1 book from every continent in addition to the X's? (I guess what has confused me is the 49 books for an overall total of 75 books statement?)

Again, how many books in the month, will we be expected to read?

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I finished Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead Daring Greatly How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brené Brown . It was an ok read. I prefer her TED Talks, which have humor. This book after reading for awhile became quite dry and repetitive. I gave it 3 stars.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 446 comments I like the challenge Claire . I can plan what I'm going to read but there is no guarantee I'll stick to it :P

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hi Cathie, the 49/75 books is that we need to total 75 books in August for the challenge (the mods upped the goal!) 47 of those are spread across the last few categories I've come up with, however we fill them, but the first three (i think, I'm on my phone and can't scroll back to see it!) need a speific number (eg 15 to spell out atomic tangerine). does that make sense?

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments and technically it works out at around 10 books each in the month but as we all read at different speeds we don't all have to read 10, we can split it depending on how many everyone reads. For June/ July, it works out at 7 each but again, different speeds mean different numbers each. Does that make sense too?

message 1057: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Yep, thanks Claire, it's starting to become clearer than mud, lol

message 1058: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I hope I can live up to 10 books in August. I normally read between 15-20, but school starts back August 5 and my reading time will be dramatically cut.

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Wow, you start back in August? When do the holidays start? Schools here are on holiday for 6 weeks end July-end August.

My project will be over by August so I'm more than happy to pick up some of the slack :)

School ends at the end of May.

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Ah ok. Does that mean the weather's still lovely when you go back in August or do you get the best of the summer weather over the holiday?

message 1062: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments It's still hot in August. Especially where I'm moving to. It will be in the 80s till late September, early October.

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Sorry Cathie, I've still got no internet at home so I'm slipping on here at work! Only got today and tomorrow in the lab before I leave to write up :)

Basically, as a team, we have to read 75 books to complete the challenge. Some of the categories have strict numbers (15 letters in Atomic Tangerine so 15 books for that, 6 books for the 6th month of the year and 7 books, one for each continent) the others can have a varying amount of books but at least one in each. Does that make it clearer?

I think we'll go for the slot where they fit approach but if you know you'll be reading something that fits somewhere specifically, let me know and I'll put it there. Is that ok with everyone?

message 1064: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Thanks Claire; that's ok with me.

Good luck on your write-up :-)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I finished Beautiful Ruins Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter . What a wonderful read. I would recommend this book to everyone, absolutely. 5 stars. If you like Romance, and you like life stories and you like old Hollywood (Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Eddie Fisher) then you will love this. An absolute gem.

reminds me of when I went to Chang Mai zoo (in Thailand) and saw baby pandas. Soooo cute.
I don't know why but whenever I think of that zoo I think about this sign. One of my favourites :)

Kme_17, thank you, I've already submitted most of the categories for the first time, and I'll sort the rest when I've got my internet set up on Friday :-)

message 1083: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I've read lots, but I don't know where they are fitting in as I thought we were letting Claire decide where they best fit? I have always updated with what I have read though.

I also just finished The Symptoms of My Insanity The Symptoms of My Insanity by Mindy Raf . 1 star...don't waste your time.

If anyone's interested you can see more of what I thought and why here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I have been slotting them in where they fit. I've submitted 5/7 categories and will do the 6th one that's finished once I can put up a proper post with book links etc in!
If you're all happy, I'll post another category as a repeat so we finish the first round and then submit as many other categories as we can, along with the BOTMs category when Robin's finished her epic reading :-)

message 1085: by Kme_17 (new)

Kme_17 | 453 comments Ok thanks sorry about that Claire : )

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I am finally back online properly!!!! Yay!! Now I can figure out what I've been missing the last two weeks on here lol!

That's ok Kim, it will help when I come to sort the other categories out :)

I've just finished What You See Is What You Get My Autobiography by Alan Sugar which was actually surprisingly good. I don't know how well Alan Sugar is across the globe but his writing style is no nonsense and quite refreshing really!

message 1088: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments So how far are we actually from completing this challenge...it seems we are taking forever. And HOW!!! did others finish it in like 2 1/2 weeks!!!

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Not far, we've got two categories left to post, one is ready and I'm going to post it now, the last one I'm going to work out which one to post now and then we can post the one Robin's almost finished when it's done for extra cupcakes.

Hope that's ok. Sorry it's taken a while, it's been a right pain not being able to get online!

As for how the others have done it, I have no idea, I guess some members have a lot more time to read or read faster than we do.

But.. I have still done some reading the last few weeks!

Anyway, I'll post that category and then head off to try and do a bit more work, only a week til my big hand in and I'm only about half way through!

message 1090: by Cathie (last edited Jul 12, 2013 10:02AM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Claire, what category do we still need to complete and how many books are left for us to read?

Or is there a link where we can find out and see so that I don't have to keep asking you to do the work, lol?

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments It's just the BOTMs which I believe Robin's halfway through the last two. So my plan is to post the spell it out again with another 7 books (hopefully, or maybe the 'seven' challenge) so we finish the first round and then use any other books we've read to repeat for the second round. If that's ok with you. I'll post the link in a minute though (I'm halfway through a post on that page!)

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Ok so just about to post the last category for the first one and then start working out which categories we can fill for the second round :)

Oh and, we've started getting Book Advantage Points (essentially extra books) for 'chunksters' we've read in exchange for 'bouncing cupcakes' from the 'sets' of puzzles. So far, we've got 8 extra books from them and we should get 4 more when I've figured out which ones also fit. (four I thought fit didn't when checked on word count)

Sorry if I post a few delayed things over the next few days, I'm trying my best to catch up!
