Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I'll take part. I don't know how many pages I will commit to yet (at least 1000 seeing as it is 12 days long) and I am confused about all the mini-challenges within the read-a-thon, but I will re-read the instructions post and I'm sure Claire will help me along, hint*wink, lol

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Haha! When I understand, I will do my best :) I'm going to sit and have another look over dinner, see if I can figure it out!

message 253: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I tried that Claire; I'm still confused, lol. I'm sure it will all make sense after a couple of re-reads and more coffee :-)

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Wow guys! 43 books already!!

I think I'm going with something like 1500 page too, I let you know a more exact number when we get closer to the date.

message 258: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Maybe I can get some reading done tonight. Hubs left about an hour and a half ago YAY! We're eating left overs, so I don't even have to worry about dinner LOL

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Morning! We're in joint third place at the moment :D

message 260: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Not bad! I finished a book last night, but didn't get a chance to shelf it yet. I have to work today. Not sure I'll get a chance to read while I'm there today since I'm subbing in PE.

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I'll probably go for 1200 pages for the readathon, I'm reading quite sporadically due to work at the moment.

I've set up a thread in the other group for RaT things and I'll post a sort of simplified explanation of what we're doing (along with a couple of links) here when I get home tonight.

message 262: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1330 comments I will do the RaT but not sure how many pages yet. I have been sick AGAIN the last few days so been reading a little bit more. Hopefully I can go back to work on Wednesday which will cut my reading time down LOL

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying those books. I will probably have a couple more finished sometime today and will get them shelved as quickly as I can

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hallo everyone!! Hope you're all ok. I'm going to suggest that, unless anybody objects, we stop the orange cover mini challenge because one of the objectives of the readathon is a colour challenge.

Is everyone happy with that?

Also, Robin's sent me some ideas for mini challenges to submit for the challenge. If anybody else wants to, PM me them and then I'll give you all the choice of what to pick on Thursday?

Hope that's ok

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hi ladies! Hope you're all well, we're doing really well on the book front and I hope I can get one of the ones I'm reading finished in the next day or so, been a bit of a busy few days!

message 265: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 446 comments Hey Claire
I think I'm going to finish both of my books sometimes today .

message 266: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Hey ladies! I'm exhausted today. 6th grade science wore me out LOL I'm working on a book, but I doubt I'll finish it tonight since I'm not quite half way in it.

Are you reading Ruthless (The House of Rohan, #1) by Anne Stuart ? does it have a HEA or is it just erotica?

message 268: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Yes, that's what I'm reading. I hope it has an HEA. I'm on page 165 and they haven't done much more than kiss. Well, he did (view spoiler). It really isn't erotica though. I'm not sure about it. It hasn't bowled me over and made me love it. So far, I could put it down and not miss it. And that makes me sad.

message 269: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 446 comments the books that I'm able to put down and not miss usually turn out to be just OK for me .Hopefully it gets better

message 270: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I finished The Next Time You See Me The Next Time You See Me by Holly Goddard Jones .

An excellent read ~ 5 stars! :-)

message 271: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Ugh. I'm not sure. I'm fixing to be sick...the mother just sold her 17 year old daughter to a old pervert that only wants virgins and really wanted the 11 year old. BLECH!!

Ughh ! I don't go near books that have "Dark" listed in their genres

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Just had a meeting rescheduled for the third time at work so I've got a bit of time to kill! So.... I#m almost finished one of the books I'm reading and I'm about to do a post about the RaT both here and in the RaT thread on the other group.

Hope you're all getting on ok. I'm going to finish the orange cover mini challenge tonight when I get in and announce a winner so we can save them for the RaT :)

message 274: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I forgot about the mini challenge! I have read these that fit... Matthew (Circle Eight, #1) by Emma Lang and Head Over Heels (Lucky Harbor, #3) by Jill Shalvis under her green jacket is a smidge of Orange

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Ok, try again - managed to delete the last message before I sent it!!

So... Read-a-thon.

Between May 1st PDT 8:00 AM (BST 4PM) to May 12th PDT 8:00 AM (BST 4 PM) there will be a tower teams RaT based on pages read.

You don't have to take part but, if you want to, please let me know sooner rather than later along with a rough idea of your page count target.

We get points for the percentage of the participants who reach their page target in the time and also for some mini challenges.

The first challenge is to read a book which has a predominatly orange cover (matches the team colour). This is a 'points for the percentage of the participants who read one with the cover' as well.

The second challenge is to read a book which matches a team theme - something we need to come up with... (again points for %ge who do this)

And thirdly, we need to come up with a mini challenge to give to the mods which I presume will be carried out over the 12 days (and there will be ones from other teams too).

Soo.... let me know if you want to take part, roughly how many pages you're aiming for (I'll get definite targets nearer the time) and any ideas for mini challenges and/or themes for our reads.

Oh and the winning team gets a 4 book advantage!

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I've been going through so don't worry! Although for future ones I might ask you to tell me if they fit!!

message 277: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments The RaT sounds like fun! I'll just say it again here-I'm in for 1500 pages :) I've got my orange cover picked out already! What do we want to suggest for our theme? Or our suggestion for a mini challenge?

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Robin's suggested a couple of mini challenge ideas, I was going to give you all a day or so to come up with one if you want to and then post the ideas to see which one we pick.

As for theme, I've no idea yet!

message 279: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I'm in :-). I'll read 1400 pages.

message 283: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I finished Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Everybody's doing the RaT :) That's great :) Hope everyone's ok this morning/evening :)

@Cathie, did you enjoy it? It's on my to-read list.

I finished Seven Days From Sunday by M.H. Sargent yesterday which was actually really good and I'm currently trekking through Murder on the Gatwick Express by Alan (Fred) Pipes which I'm not too sure about, bits are good, bits aren't.

I've also finally started on the pile of library books I have sitting waiting for me (the Kindle's more convenient for me at work) starting with 666 Charing Cross Road by Paul Magrs :)

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments So the person with the most orange covers is......

♥Robin with 8 orange covers :)

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I hope everyone enjoyed the mini challenge, we'll do some more after the RaT, let me know if you have any ideas :)

message 287: by Susan (susayq ~) (last edited Apr 25, 2013 04:47AM) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Congrats, Robin!!!

I finished Ruthless (The House of Rohan, #1) by Anne Stuart last night and it turned out better than I thought, yet it wasn't my typical romance book. I didn't swoon once over the hero LOL I'll probably read the rest of the series, just not right now. Now, I need something light and funny :) I hope everyone has a great day, evening, night :)

message 288: by ShoSho (new)

message 289: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I've managed to work all week again LOL I'm off tomorrow though, but I'm going shopping with my girls for some fabric. Then I'll read :)

message 290: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Hi Everybody :-). Yes, I did enjoy Farenheit 451 very much Claire; I gave it 5 stars. It is amazing he wrote this in 1953 and had the foresight to see earbuds in MP3 like devices and widescreen televisions on walls. Also eerie how he writes how TV characters have become "family members" to people. Bradbury always blows my mind in his ability to know what the future will (and sometimes does) hold.

message 291: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yes, Bradbury was ahead of his time. Very gifted.

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I think it's amazing to read some books and see how much foresight the author had. Spooky almost!

message 293: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Hey Lisa Kay, waves. I miss seeing you :-)

(view spoiler)

message 294: by Lisa Kay (new)

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hiya everyone!! It's Friday :D Can't wait for the weekend. Might finish the book I'm reading, finally, it's getting a bit tedious now, doesn't seem to want to end!!

Hope you're all ok, Robin, are you feeling any better?

I'll post a bit more about the RaT tonight when I get in from work.

message 296: by Susan (susayq ~) (last edited Apr 26, 2013 04:16AM) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Morning Claire! I'm so glad it's Friday! And even better, I don't have to work today YAY!! We decided not to go fabric shopping today, the grandbabies aren't feeling too great - poor little Catherine, the pollen is kicking her teeny tiny hiney. She is allergic to most trees and grasses and takes shots every other week for her allergies. So, since I'm not going fabric shopping, I'll put some laundry washing when I come home from my walk and park myself with my book on my patio and READ :D

I hope everyone has a great day!

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Oh :( I hope she's feeling better. That is the one problem with the sun putting in an appearance. We had sun, hail, rain and clouds in the space of 15 minutes here today! And then back to rain again.

message 298: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments thanks! She went for an extra shot today and is feeling better. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, hopefully that will take some of the pollen away.

✿C±ô²¹¾±°ù±ð✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Glad to hear she's feeling better Susan.

I ended up in work all day today, despite planning not to be there much!!

Any more ideas for the mini games or theme for the RaT?

message 300: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments I finished Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales and The Red Tent.

Seriously, I don't get all the hype about the Red Tent. I only gave it 2.5 stars and wouldn't have kept reading it if it's wasn't a BOTM for another club.

Everything's Eventual was very good ~ 4 stars
