One of these books could be a Caldecott come January.

Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett
And Then It's Spring by Julie Fogliano by
Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
and
Chloe and the Lion by Mac Barnett

Do you think they have a chance to win a medal?

Deborah (bookgirl4ever) Loved Green. The others I haven't checked out yet.

Lisa Nagel | 15 comments I absolutely loved Extra Yarn. And then it's Spring is delightful with the simplicity of words and amazing illustrations. Both have potential. Have not read the other two yet.

Ed (yedotter) | 14 comments I loved all of these books, and I think that Extra Yarn and And Then It's Spring are my personal favorites to win the medal at this point. Green has a good chance as well, and it is a truly beautiful book. I enjoyed the illustration of Chloe and the Lion, but it was a difficult book to read to a child, and I think that detracted a bit from the book.

Alyson | 5 comments I loved And Then It's Spring until I just read Bear Has a Story to Tell - plus I also lovedA Home for Bird. Are the Steads competing against themselves this year

I think it's interesting that Extra Yarn and Chloe and the Lion are both by Mac Barnett. I liked Chloe and the Lion OK but it didn't strike me as Caldecott worthy. Extra Yarn was cute but again I don't know if it's a future Caldecott. I loved Green. I thought it was very clever and the illustrations were just wonderful. It made me wish that Laura Vaccaro Seeger would write a book about all the other colors too. I can see this being used in the classroom, the art studio, preschools and homes. It is by far my favorite so far, though I haven't had a chance to get And Then It's Spring yet. Hopefully I can report on it soon.

Paula Although I loved all the books, I think And Then It's Springhas real potential to be a medal winner.

Deborah (bookgirl4ever) Love And Then It's Spring! Extra Yarn I liked the art but didn't think it could stand alone to tell a story.

message 9: by Ed (new)

Ed (yedotter) | 14 comments I think all the books mentioned so far are valid contenders. The other book I think bears considering is The Beetle Book. The illustrations in this book are fantastic, and it is full of great information, even though I am not a big fan of beetles. I hope it gets consideration by the committee, and I highly recommend it.

Holly Mueller (hollymueller) | 9 comments I'm partial to And Then It's Spring and Extra Yarn. I love both artists.

I love Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger

Karen Kessel | 1 comments And Then It's Spring is the most noteworthy of this group of picture books. As a friend's daughter commented, " that's Amos McGee when he was a little boy."

Amanda (misslibrarian) | 4 comments I think Chloe and the Lion actually come out as the weakest from this selection. It's a wacky romp, but I think the other three stand out as being more exceptional examples of Picture book art.

The pages of Green just make me want to reach out to feel the texture in the marvelous paintings, and with such simple text it's the really well-done die cuts and gorgeous painting that shine.

I love Extra Yarn both for the elements of fantasy in the story and the contrast of the colorful yarn with the sooty gray town. It is absolutely my favorite Klassen book of the year.
