Well, Jennifer, that's debatable. I haven't decided yet if I liked it or not. Some of the changes in storyline were fine, as they are alluded to in the book anyway, but some were just over the top and ridiculous and really took away from the story for me. Jury's still out.

I wonder why they would make so many changes to a masterpiece? Thanks for letting us know your thoughts. I hope to see the movie in the next week or so.

I'm not saying it was bad, I just can't decide my initial reaction to it. Each will have to judge for themselves, I think.

The actor who played Thorin was very good and had a real presence. Maybe that had something to do with the change from the book.

They did a good job casting him, I'll agree. I just don't think he had so much of an "angry teenager" vibe going on in the book. He kind of did when the finally get to the mountain and he gets all possessive about the Arkenstone, but until then he was just a really good leader.

You make a good point, but based on the level of violence in the movie (not so drastic in the book) I think that is a major target audience.

I just bought a really nice copy of those book. I've heard that it's great and I can't wait to read it!

I finally got around to rereading it a few weeks ago, and loved it. Good timing, too, because the movie just came on cable next week. I loved that, too, even though they added a lot to the storyline. Looking forward to the next movie installment!

Love it! It's an amazing novel, and I can hardly wait to read it to my children some day. :)
