message 79: by Breann (new)

Breann | 0 comments You can always choose a book from the SOS bookshelf. It has many many choices! :) To avoid searching through pages and pages you can just search for a book you think be on our shelves in the searchbar and see if it's already on a shelf. If you don't get the option to add it to the group then it's already on our shelves and can you can read it for your Free Space. Does that make sense? I feel like I just rambled on.

Breann | 0 comments Kick-ass Heroine Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill
Date Finished September 19th
Rating ★★★★
Review

Friday Night Bites is the second book in the Chicagoland Vampire series and is a great follow up to the first, Some Girls Bite. Newly turned vampire and Sentential of the Cadogan Vampire House, Merit, has just moved into her House to live with the rest of her vampire family. Her new House has been accused of threatening a prestigious family in Chicago. It’s up to Merit, as Sentential, to prove the Houses innocence.

Once again this book was filled with fun and witty dialogue. There are some great characters, namely, Mallory. Her and Merit’s friendship is a strong one, but they had some rocky moments in this book. They are both changing, with Merit a newly made vampire and Mallory coming into her own with her sorcery, and this has caused some tension between the two. Hopefully, they are able to move past this and mend their friendship to what it once was. It’s one of the best parts of this series! Merits moving into the Cadogan House naturally, brings her closer to the Master of the House, Ethan. These two had some sexual tension in Some Girls Bite, but despite that, Ethan basically gave Merit away to be with Morgan for alliance purposes. Morgan was a very fun and likable guy, one I would love to see Merit have a relationship with. But, unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen. I’m just not all swoony over Ethan. I don’t particularly like him as being Merit’s love interest. I guess there was some chemistry between the two. I just don’t see it. Yet. Maybe as I read through the series I will buy into their relationship a little more.

Despite my issues with Ethan being completely arrogant (view spoiler) this was a really fun read and has been a great series so far. I will be sure to continue on with Merit and Mallory! (can they be the H/h?)

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 1193 comments Ok I had to change both my books cause the library don't have them and I have to put them on hold. I wont get them in time.

Moondance (moondance120) | 2123 comments Kick ass heroine Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs
Finished September 19
Review:

Mercy gets better with each book! Mercy tries to protect Samuel from himself, Adam and Bran. Having grown up in the Marrok's pack, Mercy understands pack politics. It is just a little different when she is the subject of the conflict. A borrowed item throws Mercy into the line of fire with the fae. No matter what the problem. Mercy emerges as a strong resourceful woman. Her coyote may be small, but she can make wovles stand back in awe. Excellent!

4.5 stars

They definitely do get better and better with each book. It's a great series with fun secondary characters! Since I have a thing for good secondary characters these books are right up my alley. Glad you enjoyed it Moondance.

Lisa P | 574 comments Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, #2) by Jeaniene Frost
Shelf: Kick-ass Heroine
Read: 9/19/12
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This is the second of the Night Huntress World books, which are a part of the Night Huntress Series. I do recommend reading these two series in the correct order together, instead of as two separate series. As much as I love Cat and Bones, I have really enjoyed taking a short break from them, and hearing about some of the other intriguing characters in the NHW books . This book focuses on Mencheres, and I have to say, he is nothing like what I had imagined him to be in the first few books. I didn’t really think he would make a great “leading man for a story, but he definitely surprised me. I loved everything about his character (sweet, caring, and protective of his “family; yet strong, powerful, and deadly when needed), and I think he is my new favorite of the series. Kira was the perfect match for him (strong, independent, yet totally devoted). I hope to see more of these two in future books. This story was not quite as fast-paced as some of the other books in the series, but there was still some action to enjoy. (I will never think of Disneyland in the same way again). I will definitely be reading the next in this series.

I hope it is still an enjoyable read though. That's why I hate starting so many series at once...I get them all confused and can't remember all the details. I try, if I can, to focus on one series at a time. It's difficult though, when there are so many that I want to read.

Thanks Breann! I think they are just as good as the Night Huntress books. If you liked those, then I think you will enjoy the NHW books as well. I started this series last bingo round and have been hooked. I am also looking forward to Once Burned!
