Since this year is drawing to a close I thought I open a new thread with rumors and expectation for the next year.

Today I came across a picture of Daniel Radcliffe on a film news page which made me grin 'cause he has, well..... :)

Horns by Joe Hill by Joe Hill, son of famous author Stephen King. The story sounds very intriguing. I have to read it and watch the film too, of course.

First look offered by of an international poster for , remake of Brian De Palma's masterpiece from 1976, based on the same-named novel by Stephen King. Do we really need the remake, now it's too late to wonder...

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion, a young adult romance novel with zombies. Sounds like fun :D

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. I read this book last year, but wasn't overwhelmed. looks quite promising though.

message 14: by Kristin (new)

Kristin Considering the style in which World War Z is written, it will be very interesting to see how they make it into a movie. I'm excited :)

VERY cool poster for City of Bones by Cassandra Clare coming out in August.

message 18: by Joseph (new)

Joseph World War Z is an interesting read. I am not too excited for the movie because they have changed quite a bit. However, I think that would make for a decent discussion.

More Young Adult goodies :)

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

and

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia

message 25: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina I'm sooo excited about the new YA movies! I'm desperately trying to finish The Host so I can start Beautiful Creatures. I already read City of Bones (and City of Ashes and City of Glass) so I'm all set for that to come out. *sigh* August seems so far away...

message 26: by Kristin (new)

Kristin I hadn't even heard of Beautiful Creatures until I saw the trailer prior to The Hobbit last night. What a fantastic cast! Definitely adding it to my "to-see" list of 2013.

Great, I hope it will come out as they said in November. The casting is brilliant. Not to mention that I've heard so many good things about that book.

Joseph Ender's Game is one of my favorite books. I really hope the movie does it some justice.

wow Bekka - homophobic much?! I'm assuming that if there is "a gay" in the book, there should be one in the movie in order to make it true to the novel...

Sorry for intrusion -- just seen some other official announcements (with posters) for this year...
.
hits the cinemas again in May 2013, this time in 3D (Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton) while comes out in November 2013 (based of course on Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins)

message 38: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments The whole hunger games series seems so tame to me now that I'm working through Battle Royale. Great choice, by the way, whoever nominated it! I'll post in that section eventually...that book really draws you in!

What's with rereleasing everything in 3D these days? Is it really so popular that people pay to go see old movies at the theater again? I did it with the Lion King but I wasn't all that impressed.

Alana wrote: "What's with rereleasing everything in 3D these days? Is it really so popular that people pay to go see old movies at the theater again?"

Lol I understand how you feel - I do not care really at all for 3D. I mean, I can watch it, have no pains and such things, but I can enjoy a film without any enhancements too, thank you very much :) However, it seems I'll have to watch Life of Pi on 3D, no other version is available in our cinemas.

But, I would love to see Jurassic Park, that would be 156th time, true, but I haven't ever seen it in the cinema. I think I was too young then to be allowed to see it :D

message 40: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments I don't consider Jurassic Park to be a scary movie (though it certainly would have been had I seen it as a child!) it's definitely one of those I would NOT want to see in 3D. I don't do horror/scary movies. And they've been doing ads for releasing "Saw" in 3D; ugh, I can't think of anything I'd like LESS to see coming straight at my head!

LOL! Flying body parts and/or gigantic dinosaurs in 3-D- ahhh, not thanks! I am not a big fan of the whole 3-D phase either. They do give me headaches, but having always said that- I recently broke down (after taking a few extra-strength Tylenol), paid the exorbitant price ($24 per person!!), and saw The Hobbit- in both IMAX and 3-D. The kids and husband convinced me we had to do both with this one. I am so glad they did, it was visually stunning! Now that I have been impressed (but not quite converted), I am wondering if Les Mis would be worth seeing in 3-D?

Saw the trailer for this...looks amazing!! Can't wait!

message 43: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments O my goodness, Donnell, you must be in England somewhere, that's the only place I've ever payed that much for a movie ticket (and that was just a regular night showing several weeks after the movie opened). I chose not to do the IMAX but it cost the same as the 3D I saw and that was only $11.50 or so (I LOVE how "cheap" tickets are here compared to when I was living in Las Vegas!) If it was $24 a person I would have just stuck to 2D. It's outrageous how expensive tickets are these days.

Sadly no not England, just California. I usually pay between $5-11 depending on where we go, but this was for both IMAX and 3-D. I have felt like I have wasted money on $5 movies, but did feel I got our moneys worth for this one. I do not think it would be worth it for anything other than a truly epic movie. That is why I am considering Les Miserables. Oh and well, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz looks like it would be pretty amazing in 3-D. LOL, maybe I am a 3-D convert!

message 45: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Lol, I didn't realize California was that bad. Considering most movies come out of CA they should be cheaper there, right??? :)

I only go to the theater about 3 times a year at most, so I have to really want to see it to go. We keep saying we're going to see Lincoln and I really do want to see Les Mis, but there's not much else out there that captures my interest. I almost never to see a comedy in the theater, I don't see the point. The big screen is for action scenes and special effects :)

I agree with you. The Big Screen for me is for those movies I really want to see for the first or second time. Not for the average film. I only watch movies at the cinemas that I think are big and action packed, are visual feasts or based on books I love!

Shame on me, haven't announced here yet that comes out quite soon, in April, and is based on the same-name graphic novel Oblivion by Arvid Nelson and Joseph Kosinski who's also the director of the film. However, it must be dutifully noted that what we see now as graphic novella, was at first (going back even to 2005) imagined by the director as a script for the screenplay and the movie he couldn't film due to the lack of funds. If it is true, I admire director's passion for his story. And would gladly go see it.

Here's a too, from the movie's official site -- might be a bit slower than youtube, but the quality seems better.

Based on a graphic novel?!? I had no idea.

Zeljka, thanks for letting us know!
