Ann MacCaffrey has a few as well, including her Dragon Riders of Pern series.

Darkover Landfall by Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Le Guin

Man Made Man is Book 1 of the series and although it's still exclusive to Amazon via their restrictive Kindle Select program, it's on free promo this Black Friday weekend (Kindle Only until after December 5, 2013 then via Smashwords in all formats)
Try it free at no risk. Warning: I write epicly LONG novels that read VERY quickly but this particular book is 262,000 words so it might seem daunting. It took me 4 days to do my final cover to cover read for typos (reading slowly but morning to night, non-stop) Of course, it was 4 of the best days EV-VAHHH! I do love my characters. They're a lot of fun to be around.

blurbage
Raif was never meant to be a Proctor. He was specifically designed for another life entirely. Before he's even gone into production, Dramond steals his genetic material from the Administrator, Joshua Andrew Caine. Dramond wants to settle a lifelong vendetta against the Caines, but this one moment of vengeance puts Raif on a collision course with the Phoenicians--and the Seven Chiefs have a Plan!
This post-apocalyptic, far-future story set on the alien homeworld of the mysterious Phoenicians is FREE FOR BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND at or Free offer expires midnight Pacific Time Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013.

This is kind of a colonization book a number of years later and deals with the unexpected dangers of a planet missing certain key minerals Humans need for proper function

Both deal with colonization after a century of cold sleep that goes poorly for some key members and disrupting an ecology with negative effects.

I particularly like it because the prologue is all laying plans.
Into the chapters, it jumps forward -- generations -- and lo and behold all those plans hit reality.
