I've read Heist Society and I wasn't really impressed with it. I love the idea of a young thief, but find the execution lacking. You can actually find my review for it here:

So I was going to read this book because it had sunglasses on the cover and I was going to use it for a task in the Winter/Spring 2012-13 challenge and then, boom!, it's listed as one of the monthly group reads. Great! That's pretty much why I decided to read it this month.

Anyway, I read the summary on here and I was pretty excited because I love mysteries/thrillers. I just finished the book and was a bit disappointed. It was ok, I liked it and all but it just seemed like a watered-down version of a thriller. Granted, it's YA but I'm pretty sure there are better YA Mystery/Thriller books out there. The characters were pretty flat and it wasn't as action-packed as I hoped it would be. So yeah, I'm not sure if I'll be reading the rest of the series...

I pretty much agree with both of you. I decided to read it because I found it on my libraries audiobook list.
It was alright. I liked it enough and it was a very quick listen, but I agree with your statement, Martha, that it seemed pretty watered-down.
I enjoyed the main character and (view spoiler)[the little love triangle thingy (hide spoiler)], but I didn't love the book.

I LOVED Heist Society! I read it on my cruise, and it was so much fun. Light, sweet, fun, and a great getaway from the usual romance!

I wasn't too impressed with Heist Society. While it was an easy read with a fun story line, I didn't really like the writing. It felt like it was really choppy and the characters didn't have enough development to make you care much what happened to them. It sort of felt to me like a watered down version of The Italian Job.

I read this late as part of the book challenge. I had read all of Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series and absolutely loved it but this book fell a bit flat for me. Her world in the Gallagher Girls series is so well developed and the characters each contribute in a strong and meaningful way. In this book however the characters felt unsubstantial and the main character was kinda flat and boring. I am going to continue the series to see if the world and characters become more fleshed out but so far I am disappointed especially coming from an author I love so much.

I got halfway through this book and had to check that I was for sure reading the first book in this series and that I hadn't missed something. The book just seemed to jump in to the world which isn't bad as long as there are interesting characters to keep me there until I get more information. The characters were not strong enough to give me this connection to the book so I found myself becoming frustrated until I got more background information.

Even coming out of this book though there is so much I don't understand. The main character's motivation is vague at best, non-existent at worst and her attempt to become reintegrated into the family business was made out to be very difficult but seemed to go smoothly or at least there was no sense of an intense struggle.

Overall this book was enjoyable and I have high hopes that the series will improve over the next few books. Ally Carter's series seem to become more complex as they progress so I am hoping that is what happens with this book.
