Linda (revlinda) | 7 comments Unfortunately, I have a stack of books to get through before I can get my hands on this one, but it does look very good. :)

I'm curious to what you think will have to say about it, so I am looking forward to your review.

Jacob (paulsen) | 245 comments I finished this book today. Just to make things simple I'll just paste in my review into this discussion:

I really enjoyed this book. Knowing that leadership is perhaps one of the most important skills we can develop in life I don't think one can ever read too many books about leadership. John C. Maxwell outlines several key attitudes that leaders need to develop to be effective. I especially loved the last section where he talked about leading others. I'm going to have to go get the book "Developing the Leaders Around You" now.

Dale Tan (frostier) | 3 comments I read this book sometime back then. In fact, it was a great book. Detailing the leadership key area.

As I continue with his series, I felt most of the time it is based on the same law of leadership such as the lid and inner circles.

It was just variation of it.

John Sherman | 13 comments OK..I need more explaination to be interested in reading this book.
If Maxwell doesn't enlighten your understanding of a given topic from what you knew before, than really he hasn't told you anything new, right? On the other hand if he has taken a topic one step further, than I'd like to know what that exactly was. From your perspective, how you'd gain personally from it? In other words what's your personal take on what he pushed in his book.. There may be several things, but what really stood out for you? That's what I want to hear. It helps me understand rather this book, has real value. Value that someone like me could take away from it.

Acouple of quick questions.
Jacob, could you summarize what you feel is one of the most striking leadership skills that Maxwell proports?
Dale, what does the lid and inner circles mean to you?

Thanks so much for your insights, and I do look forward to hearing about how you felt after reading this.

Jacob (paulsen) | 245 comments John,

I think there are two things to consider.

First off we are all in need of constant renewal. Even if a book or author doesn't add a new insight or concept to your bank of knowledge it is often just in the review or new perspective that we find our renewal.

Second, Maxwell's greatest ability in my ability is to explain principles in a simple way for us to understand. I admit that this particular book did not expand my understanding or add to my bank of knowledge but I like his style and when I finished the book I did feel a greater clarity of what I need to do and how to do it than before.

John Sherman | 13 comments OK Jacob

Let me ask you this then, explain what you mean by a greater clarity of what you need to do? Exactly what are you thinking you need to do? Give a specific example of what you mean by that, and how Maxwell's book helped you bring better clarity to it.

This takes the conversation from a philosophical reply to a real world example. Of course of you cain't think of one, or really haven't put into practice what you've learned, that's ok too.. Just in my posts here, I'm trying to find real examples from lessons learned is all.

Thanks for you reply Jacob

Jacob (paulsen) | 245 comments ok so Maxwell made it clear that we need to lead by example. This isn't a new idea of course but as he outlines examples of the idea it reminded me of the importance of making sure that I do the same things I ask my team to do in my business.

Simple things
