Looks more like a children's book :-). Right now I'm contemplating on why is it called "Of Mice and Men" :-). I'll start reading today.
It's not a children's book, but it's written quite simple.. i'm on page 64 now, only 40 pages left, and i like it :)
I know it's not for children but the picture on the cover page reminded me of those you fund in children books :-).
I finished the book yesterday. I don't know if it was a bad translation (i read danish edition from 1973), but it seemed that there wasn't a flow in the language.
But it was a good story though.
It was simply written, i really liked that, it seemed to fit the story very well, and made the story even more sad and harsh.
I really need to read some more Steinbeck to find out if he really wrote that clumsy, or if it was just the translation..

Most of the time your first impression is the most valid. Whenever I disliked a book or a writer nothing could have changed my perception later.
Maybe he is not someone you can relate to, perhaps your taste in books and language skills surpass his talent :-).
