The last couple of years, I've limited my list to stand alone books. But this coming year, I'm just going to include series and it looks like the 10 oldest books on my to-read list is serial!

1. Dreams of the Ringed Vale (Luthiel’s Song #1) -Read 01/04
2. Warlock: A Novel of Ancient Egpyt (Ancient Egypt #3) -Read 05/10
3. The Quest (Ancient Egypt #4) -Read 06/10
4. The Stone Key (The Obernewtyn Chronicles #5) -Read 02/04
5. The Dragons Queens (Mystique Trilogy #2) -Read 06/17
6. The Black Madonna (Mystique Trilogy #3) -Read 08/06
7. The Red Necklace (French Revolution #1) -Read 01/12
8. The Dark Mirror (The Bridei Chronicles #1) Given up 07/04
9. The Named (Guardians of Time #1) -Read 05/01
10. The Chronicles of Chrestomanci - Read 06/20
11. Oscar and Lucinda - Read 09/05

Am happy with this list as 5 books are by Aussie women writers which should gel well with my AWW2013 challenge :)

Sooooo - I'm pretty sure that I can just copy my 2012 list and be good. That's how bad I did on the 2012 challenges.

From what I remember vaguely, there are quite a few pointed differences (esp. character wise)

@Bea, I thought you started Les Mis this year? So just finishing it off in the new year?

The Passage & Little Bee were really good and of course, I loved Outlander!

I have been reading Les Mis all year! In dribs and drops....but I am bound and determined to finish it. I actually like the story but the book is hard to handle being small and very thick...and hard to actually hold! Plus being a library book, I am extra careful as it is a paperback. Maybe I need my own copy.

I think hosting a Les Mis read along really pushed me to make sure that I finish by due date!

Maybe that's what I should do to get motivated about all other Monster Reads ;)

And, I got sidetracked with dog's death, husband's tumor and my own need for a breast biopsy. Just has not been a good time since October for reading. (not to mention that workload is increasing and harder and harder to keep up - especially with my over-stressed mind!) I had to put Les Mis down and look for quick, light reads.

But, I want to finish it before I see the play.

Hoping 2013 treats you & your family lots better!

@Bea - wow sounds like you have had quite a few months. I hope things improve for you all soon.

As for Les Mis - I don't have a good excuse, and I am pretty sure that I read less than any if you did, lol. I like the idea of the read-a-longs, though. It works really well for the Chunksters.

Ebony Taylor | 95 comments Ive picked 10 from the first 2 pages of my to-read list. Most of them are within the top 20, but I wanted my list to be a bit of a mix, and I shelved a whole heap of classics all at once, so I skipped a few of these. Tien, I notice you have the chrestomanci chronicles on your list, i read i think the first one years ago and really liked it, but couldnt remember the name until just now, your list jolted my memory, onto my to-read shelf it goes!

Shakespeare After All
The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul
Plymouth Plantation 1620 - 1647
A Suitable Boy
The Happiest Refugee: A Memoir
Remembering Babylon
On Liberty
North and South
Animal Farm
Gone with the Wind

@Ebony:
The Happiest Refugee is the first book for my f2f bookclub book next year and I've heard really good things about it so am really looking forward to finally readint it! We'll be meeting at a friend's place and we're planning on having some rice paper rolls and three bean drink on the day! Yum! Can't wait ;)

I've also got A Suitable Boy on my shelf for ages! I've taken it out several times for never really read very much at all. Interested in buddy read? If so, let me know which month you'd like to do it in :)

message 24: by Ebony (last edited Dec 24, 2012 12:57AM) (new)

Ebony Taylor | 95 comments Tien, Ive gotten half-way through Happiest Refugee before, and it's really good. Ahn is a very funny man, but he is also very good at conveying the emotional and difficult parts of his story. I think I put it down because I had uni assessments due and I was getting strange looks in the library when I was reading it and giggling instead of writing essays! I also saw a documentary not long ago, called "Ahn does Vietnam" where he returned to Vietnam and tried to imagine his life if they hadnt come to Australia, which was really interesting as well.

A buddy read for A Suitable Boy sounds great! I was recommended this book by my english lecturer last year, he was amazed at how quickly I read (was the first to finish the assigned novel for the unit, and it was a real bore too, Voss by Patrick White, only read it so quick cos I knew it needed to be read for the 50% essay!) so said I should try this one, he thinks I may have the stamina required for it! If we aim to read it in July, does that suit you?

I saw bits & pieces of it when it's on tv - it's really funny cuz he's just such a funny guy, he definitely found his life's calling ha ha ha

July sounds good, I have plenty of other books to keep me occupied til then LOL - are you aiming for the winter's holiday? To hibernate with a chunkster and not come out til you've finished reading it ;)

message 26: by Ebony (new)

Ebony Taylor | 95 comments Exactly! Haha, it also coincides with uni break, I should have at least 4 weeks break from study so will have the time to read it.

2. The Pilgrim's Progress
3. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
4. Les Misérables
5. French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure
6. Queen of Babble
7. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
8. The Iron King
9. Beauty<---My library doesn't have this! so I'm switching to: The Scarlet Pimpernel
10. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

My list- pretty easy as all are historical romances.
Im changing some books to the first in their series, so deleting them and adding the first , which would affect my TBR listing , I dont think it will matter right?

1.Princess Charming
2.How to Capture a Countess
3.The Princess and the Peer
4.The Lady Risks All
5.Whisper of Scandal
6.Sinful Surrender
7.A Rogue by Any Other Name
8.A Night Like This
9.Notorious Pleasures
10.Awakened by a Kiss

That sounds reasonable to me.

The way I avoid the problem is that I never put later ones in a series in my TBR list until I've read the ones before them. In fact, I have a separate exclusive shelf that's "to-read-but-later-in-series," and I move each one to the TBR shelf only after I've read the one before it. That makes things like LOST and Mt TBR much easier.

That is what I do nowadays , add the first book in the series and not the later ones , adding the whole series unnecessarily increases my TBR and I prefer to read in order . But these are from when I had initially joined GR and was just adding up books , so hadn't realised this then. :)

True, but I'm very stubborn. lol I will try it when I'm done with the rest just to make sure. George MacDonald is one of those authors that people seem to love, and yet his awesomeness evades me.
