Anyone addicted to a little piece of dark chocolate a day? I read it's super healthy (in moderation) so I started eating an ounce a day...it actually is great...lots of satisfaction in a small amount. Made me think of our discussion about where you like to read...I've enjoyed some tea, a comfortable chair, some dark chocolate and a good book. :)

Kristi (target) | 10 comments lol, That reminds me of the first chapter in one of my favorite books, The Book Theif, It was called Death and Chocolate.

±á²¹±ô±ô±ðÓË¥ | 13 comments I like chocolate! I notice I feel more sophisticated when I eat dark chocolate, and I feel like a little kid when I eat milk chocolate. There's something French-y about dark chocolate.lol

I really like a little bit of dark chocolate--been eating a little every day. Supposedly you are not supposed to mix it with milk--hurts health effects.

Atomicgirl | 12 comments does Homer Simpson impersonation: hmm..... dark chocolate.....(drips saliva)

message 6: by Prabha (new)

Prabha | 29 comments Ed, apparently you can eat up to 3.5 ounces (100 grams)of dark chocolate a day to get the benefits. What a yummy thought! Homer Simpson impersonation spot on!

That's what I read...or at least an ounce...as to be 70 percent cocoa or more I've read.

Leshawn | 4 comments First let me say, this topic has lifted my spirits as I toil away in the lab for the night!
I agree with Halle that dark chocolate makes me feel sophisticated and milk chocolate makes me feel like a kid.
I try to avoid eating chocolate while reading because I am a messy eater and would leave brown fingerprints.
I do like dark chocolate, though!

dark chocolate is the best! :)

message 12: by Ika (new)

Ika (devita) | 19 comments I also love dark chocolate. But someone has ever said to me that chocolate contains caffeine which may not be consumed a lot. What do you think?

message 13: by Terri (new)

Terri I also have one ounce of dark (at least 70%) chocolate every afternoon with my afternoon cup of coffee. It's a huge treat I look forward to and when it comes to chocolate, I don't scrimp. I always buy the good French chocolate. When I visit France, I come home loaded down with it, but it lasts for months. When that runs out, I order online. Sees Chocolate has some nice selections.

message 17: by Harlequin (new)

Harlequin Historical (historical) Chocolate does contain caffine which is why they say to eat only a little each day but dark chocolate is the best for you and your heart. I wasn't that crazy about it until this year when I had some VERY good dark chocolate. As a kid, my favorite kind was white chocolate.

a little bit goes a long way. :)

Any favorites..I've tried to purchase 70 percent since that is what the health gurus suggest...

message 21: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) 70 percent is a little on the dry side for me. I stick closer to 60%, figure it's okay to be kind to myself that way. I happen to like:

Ghirardelli (my daughter gave me some Citrus flavored for Xmas... so yummy!)
Dagoba (they make a lavender flavor that rocks)
Scharffenberger is a big favorite, but it tends to be very thick bars. Great for cooking.
Fran's makes an AMAZING dark chocolate sauce TO DIE FOR. Seriously the best stuff to ever be put in a jar.

But my favorite local hero is this guy:

I have met him out at high end shopping areas giving away chocolates on a tray. Some of the best chocolate I have ever tried. And he makes chocolate bowls. Truly gorgeous amazing art sculptures that you can eat.

How about you? Any favorites?

off the computer now to go get a final piece of dark chocolate for the night. :)

message 24: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 19 comments I've loved dark chocolate since I was a kid. I always took the dark Hershey's pieces out of the bag and hid them! My thanks to my friend Sally from high school, for turning me on to white chocolate. She was Mormon, and they don't do caffeine. Milk chocolate, well, it's still chocolate...

Last night, my husband and I were watching the second part of the 24 premier, and he bought some good craft beers to make it more festive. The piece de resistance was choklat, an imperial stout made with dark chocolate! There are quite a few dark ales with chocolate tones, but in this you could really taste the dark chocolate! You drink it in snifters, like brandy, to enjoy it's wonderful aroma!

sounds heavenly. :) Need to enjoy some tonight.

message 26: by Jill (new)

Jill (wanderingrogue) | 5 comments I just ate some dark chocolate. It's my favorite kind. Has been since I was just a kid. I always devoured the dark chocolate pieces when my parents would buy a bag of those mixed Hershey minis. My brother was just happy that he got the milk chocolate to himself. ;)

message 27: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Oh i LOVE chocolate. A couple of years ago I went to Denver to visit my cousin and picked up a bar of the 70% with some kind of a hot pepper or something in it. It sounds weird but it was good.

need to grab some now.

message 30: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 19 comments The beer I referred to in my post is southern tier imperial choklat stout. It's brewed with chocolate malt and bittersweet Belgian chocolate. According to the bottle, the ancient Aztecs called chocolate "the food of the gods." One word of warning, it has an 11% alcohol content!
