FL1: Team #1 ~ Another One Bites the Dust

go for it ladies! post this weeks read!

Rating: 4 stars
Review: Pamela Palmer created an interesting world controlled by vampires. Washington, V.C. is layered on top of D.C., but the barrier protecting them from the sunlit world is breaking down and only a sorcerer or sorceress can rebuild it.
When Quinn stumbles into VC, she's separated from her brother Zack. Quinn's determination to save her brother is what drives her throughout the book and gives her the strength to fight for her freedom. She's always struggled to hide her differences in our world, but her unique abilities could be the key to saving her in VC. She just has to learn to use them and know who to trust. Arturo is a vampire who feeds on fear and blood. He isn't really a good guy, but he has a vested interest in keeping Quinn alive. He's attracted to Quinn, in fact he really cares in his own way, but his main loyalty is to the vampires and saving VC. I'm really interested to see how things develop between these two in future books.
Overall a fun read and I'll definitely be looking for more in this series.

Title by Author: Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley

Review:
Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley is somewhat hard to characterize. It is a YA contemporary but has elements of the crime and mystery/thriller genres as well. I found it to be a very different and satisfying read. Angie was abducted when she was 13 and she shows up on the doorstep of her house three years later with no memory of that time. She doesn’t remember what happened to her or anything having to do with the time she was away. It’s like she went to sleep a thirteen year-old and woke up sixteen. It is discovered very early on that she has dissociative identity disorder and has created alternate personalities as a way to separate herself from the fear and pain she experienced. Angie was pretty much checked out for those three years and instead, her “alters ran the show Girl Scout and Little Wife mainly. The book focuses on Angie’s attempt to recall what happened to her during those three years and her decision to either integrate with or eliminate her alters. This book had some very tough subject matter, but I found it fascinating. Angie had a perfect narrative voice; you empathized with her but you never pitied her. I loved that therapy was presented in such a good light as well. Sometimes therapists become demonized in fiction, but not here. I thought the characters surrounding Angie and the situations she had to face upon her return were realistic. All of the alters were unique and very interesting. I didn’t them to become as real as they did. It was almost like reading about completely separate characters. The story was very gripping and suspenseful and I found myself reading all of it in one night. I had a few little nitpicks here and there, but I found this story to be fascinating and am eager to see what Ms. Coley writes in the future. Because of the subject matter, I would recommend this one for older YA readers.

this started out really promising, it got a little boring in the middle and then picked up again at the end. it was mildly predictable in placing. Gin is a kick-ass assassin that has learnt to keep her emotions in check however when she's framed for something she didn't do and her handler is killed she mush learn to trust her emotions and join forces with what sounds like the only not corrupt cop in the city to catch the real killer and clear her name.

My Review:
Holy Crow! I didn't think there could be anymore bombshells or surprises after Consequences, boy was I wrong! Ms. Romig is a genius! These books suck you in, turn you upside down and leave you with your mouth hanging open at the end. This picks up right were Consequences ends. Don't click on this if you haven't' read Consequences.(view spoiler) Throughout the course of this book it's often referred to a game of a chess. And that's exactly what happens. Each of the players makes a move and you see what the results of these moves can do to everyone! Just when you think you have it all figured out where this story is going something happens and you're left feeling quite shocked! I need the next one now! These are by far the best non-PNR/UF books I've read in a long time!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Meghan's Queen of Clubs Review

Review:
These books are extremely fast paced. Everything happens within a 2 month time frame. This one happens all within a week. It is kind of amazing how quick it all happened.
In this book, Chloe and her friends have made peace and found a hiding place with Simon's and Derek's family friend. They are looking for a way to still find Simon's and Derek's father and want to get back to the Edison Group on a rescue mission to save their friend Rae and Chloe's aunt Lauren.
This is definitely not one of those series where you can skip around and still figure out where you are. It is really hard to review this book without reviewing the series as an entire whole mostly because these book could all be put together to make a large book and you still wouldn't know that it was all happening so fast.
It is a light and fluffy read and the characters all stay true to themselves while still growing into better people. I really like how Tori transitioned between all three books from a downright nasty b*tch to a person with sarcasm and you can actually get along with. Derek shows that although he is the one who is strong and tries to play the protector you get to see his vulnerable side. Simon is just well Simon and is just a nice person. Chloe grows from someone that is always scared and always protected to someone that is sweet but still has the gumption to go out and fight through her fears for the better of everyone around her.

Rules state:
Fantasy Fowards
(These are ONE-TIME-ONLY fantasy forwards. If you draw one of these cards a second time, please disregard it and draw again. Game progresses forward only - no backward movements. So, if you drew the 10 of HEARTS and moved to the HEART space, then later in the game you draw the RED JOKER disregard it because the BAT is behind you, not ahead of you.)

My understanding of that rule was that each fantasy forward card could only be drawn once, not once you have use 'the' fantasy forward that's it. Ie. if the next fantasy forward card that you chose was after the previous you could still use it so long as you were not going backwards on the game board. We are still moving ahead - space 109 to space 126.
Please tell if my understand is incorrect and I will draw another card.

I've just asked Steph to advise which way to go. The rules can be interpreted both ways.

I had to keep re-reading that rule at the being because it could be a little ambiguous. However the last part about not being able to move backwards made me think you could use more than one fantasy forward.
I'll wait for steph's answer and go from there.

Fantasy fast forwards are one-time use only, meaning a team can use just one (any one of the f/frwd cards) during a game. So, if you've already had one f/frwd this game, you'll need to draw again. Thanks, ladies! Happy Reading!

Ok. New draw. Randomiser is done so I'm using my Mr R (hubby).

Green book for week 6 now!

I really like the series, Belinda. Charley's coping mechanism is using humor to get through extremely serious events and might not appeal to everyone. You either love it or hate it. Personally, I usually end up laughing at even the most outrageous comments.

There's a buddy read for the series over on paranormal kickass chicks

Review:
a pleasing blend of murder, mystery, intrigue, action, supernatural and kick-ass chick with a little humour involved. There is a slight twist on what you think you know about vampires as well. Kate lives in a world plagued by fluxes of magic and tech, she is a merc but when her friend is killed she investigates for the Order - the magical community whilst getting involved with the People - necromancers who 'control' or 'pilot' undead (read vampires) and the Beast King who have both had losses to the murderer. It leaves some things about Kate's background unsaid and leaves you with an entrance to the next book, which I'm told, keeps getting better.

Title by Author: Peach Pies and Alibis by Ellery Adams

Review:
I really loved this book and Ellery Adams is definitely turning into an auto-buy author for me. Ella Mae learns more about her history and magic here and a lot of progress is made on the Sloan/Hugh love front. All the characters are so wonderful and I love the magic of the pie shoppe, but it did have one sad turn with an important character. I can't wait to see what the next adventure holds. Is it January yet?

Book Review:
This book was all right. Not great and not very enlightening. I almost wish it had been a little more interesting. Or at least a little more exciting throughout the book. There was just a lot of leading up to rather than anything else.
