Review: This is another series that I've hung onto forever before finally starting...and boy do I feel like an idiot for waiting so long. I loved the Dark Lover, but I loved this one so much more. Rhage and Mary were such a sweet couple. Rhage is so incredibly hot and just got added to the fictional characters I'd like to bang I wish were real list. I loved Mary, I loved that she was average, I loved that she was insecure, I loved that she didn't just jump into his bed right away. I also related to Mary on a more personal level having had cancer myself. I enjoyed getting to know all the brothers a little better. I can't wait to read Lover Awakened...bring on Zsadist and Bella! I'll be starting that ASAP.

Review: Aislinn can see faeries. They mustn't know she can see them. She catches the eye of one of the faeries and he begins to pursue her. He believes she is the Queen he's been searching for. He tries to woo her, but she already has a boyfriend. Stuff happens, stuff gets resolved. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for Fae or a YA book, but this just dragged for me. I started it because I thought I'd have it finished in a day. It took 3. I just didn't want to read it, it was that blah to me. I doubt I'll continue the series.

Review: I was really looking forward to this one. A lot of people recommended it, so even though my library didn't have it I gave in a bought it. It looks like I'm going to be the odd reader out with this one. I never connected to any of the characters, which is frustrating when it's an end-of-the-world-zombie-apocalypse-type story. You're supposed to grow to understand the characters and root for them to survive. The pace of the story was also terribly slow and the dialogue had the characters talking, but not really saying much. Maybe I missed the deeper, subtle message, but color me uninterested. Moving on...

Rainshadow Road (Friday Harbor, #2) by Lisa Kleypas

Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas
Book Completed: 9 February 2013
Rating: ★★★★

This is the second book in the Friday Harbor Series, a contemporary romance series with a touch of whimsy from Lisa Kleypas. Rainshadow Road is Sam’s story and so far I think my favorite of the series. Sam is such a wonderfully caring geek; not at all what I envisioned about him from the other two books that I had read. The romance between Sam and Lucy was magical and special and I really enjoyed this one.

Ashes and Ice (Ashes and Ice, #1) by Rochelle Maya Callen
Finished 2/9

This was a confusing book at first with a choppy writing style, but it all seemed to flow better as the book continued. Jade has no recollection of her past and keeps having these strange dreams. She is taken in by an older lady named Nana, and Jade tries to figure out who she is and where she came from. She meets Connor and the two misfits become friends. I loved Connor's character and enjoyed watching their friendship develop and how much they grew to care for each other. The mystery surrounding the killings was intriguing. The ending left me wanting to know what happens next, so I will continue with the series.

Review: I really enjoy this series. Stephanie is still a little annoying, but in a kind of endearing way. Her grandmother is a hoot. I'm totally Team Ranger, at least for a short while. Morelli might be a better choice for the long run, but Ranger should be fun for a couple weeks at least.

Dream Lake (Friday Harbor, #3) by Lisa Kleypas

I have yet to read a Lisa Kleypas book I did not enjoy and Dream Lake is no exception. Alex Nolan is recently divorced and battling an alcohol problem when he meets Zoë Hoffman. Zoë is a baker running an inn with her cousin, Justine, when her grandmother is diagnosed with dementia and she becomes her caregiver. Alex and Zoë are both trying to overcome broken pasts. Alex is cynical and thinks he will hurt anyone who cares about him, but it was fun to watch Zoë chip away at the barriers he put up. I enjoyed the history with the ghost, Tom, and Zoe's grandmother, Emma, and the ending was perfect. I also liked how Tom kept Alex on his toes and the barbs that the two constantly threw at each other were entertaining. The food descriptions were amazing and made me hungry just thinking about them. I am looking forward to reading Justine's story in Crystal Cove.

Unseen (Outcast Season, #3) by Rachel Caine
Title: Unseen by Rachel Caine
Date completed: February 13, 2013
Rating: 3-stars
Review: We're raising the stakes with this one and Cassiel has grown along the way. A lot of this installment is about Cassiel focusing on what it means to be human and how that humanity works with the Djinn and Great Mother (I think that's what she calls her, anyway). Her relationship with Luis is tested to the extreme and I liked where Caine took things between them. Some of the story felt slow at times and I'm getting tired of the same song and dance between Pearl and Cassiel. Since the next book is the last in this series I'm hoping that won't be a problem. I'm ready for the finale, so 3-stars for keeping me entertained, but not amazed.

Review: I have loved every book in this series, this is the first time I have been a little unhappy. During the fist 150 or so pages I found Cat so whiny and seemed to be the "stupid girl" I hate to read about. I love Cat for her strength but didn't see any of that. The last 150 pages (once she got her head out of her ass) were a total 5 star read for me...I even cried. Oh and how do I love Bones...Mmmm. That's all, of course I'll be continuing with the series and every spin-off available.

Sherri | 781 comments The Better To See You (Transplanted Tales, #2) by Kate SeRine

The Better To See You by Kate SeRine
Book Completed: 16 February 2013
Rating: ★★ ★★

Loved this second book in the Transplanted Fairy Tale Series! Seth Wolf had captured my attention in the Red and I instantly wanted to know his story and boy did it not disappoint. Seth is everything you want in a man, but has been misunderstood and not had an easy life. When he meets Lavender Seelie you really know that these two are destined to be together. I liked that both Seth and Lavender had loved and lost and were able to move beyond their pasts to create a future together.

What makes this series interesting to me is that SeRine doesn’t forget about her past characters, such as Red Hood and Nate Grimm. They are intricately woven into The Better to See You storyline where they are most needed without being gratuitous. Along with the romance story is a parallel mystery of what is happening in Refuge. A terrific supporting cast of characters had me guessing to the end on who was responsible and even then I didn’t totally guess the villain.

The Better to See You was a magical read that has me believing in fairy tales and I cannot wait for the next in the series; Along Came a Spider which is Trish and Nick’s story.
