Rachel | 1527 comments A crime novel which I think was published in the last 10-15 years. I read it a couple of years ago and it seemed contemporary.

The main detail that I remember is that one character received flowers from an anonymous sender every year on the anniversary of a death. I think the character was either a relative of the deceased or a police officer/PI who had worked on the case.

I believe the death was an unsolved murder and the recipient of the flowers always thought that the flowers were sent by the killer, who was taunting them about never having been caught. But during the course of the book it emerges that the flowers are actually sent by someone expressing sympathy about the death.

I think the plot involved some kind of resolution to the unsolved murder, years after it happened. I also seem to remember it being one of several storylines, perhaps a more recent crime that sparked a re-investigation of the old case, or something like that.

*The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's Prologue features an unnamed man (who we soon learn is Henrik Vanger) getting a framed, pressed Australian flower in the mail on his birthday, November 1st. Henrik gets one of these flowers every year on his birthday. He has a total of 44 and has no idea who keeps sending them.*
